  3. 3. Argument <ul><li>Preventive detention is a violation of human rights. </li></ul><ul><li>Every person is entitled to a </li></ul><ul><li>fair trial and should be allowed </li></ul><ul><li>to know why he/she is </li></ul><ul><li>being detained. </li></ul>

Problematic System <ul><li>Person can be detained indefinitely without </li></ul><ul><li>being told why. </li></ul><ul><li>Accused has no defense or trial. </li></ul><ul><li>Accused is arrested on suspicion of </li></ul><ul><li>being a threat, not for any </li></ul><ul><li>specific crime. </li></ul>

United States <ul><li>Barack Obama proposed a preventive detention plan for the United States. </li></ul><ul><li>He recently withdrew the bill from </li></ul><ul><li>congress, but the United States already </li></ul><ul><li>has a form of preventive detention </li></ul><ul><li>that passed after 9/11. </li></ul>

  8. 8. Final Thought <ul><li>Stopping a crime before it happens </li></ul><ul><li>is a tremendous feat; however, </li></ul><ul><li>isn’t that “potential” criminal still a human being, and don’t all human beings deserve the same rights. </li></ul>
