  • .Today we live in the middle of a recycling machinery. And we are all important cogs. Every time you or I leave a glass bottle for recycling, the cycle spin another lap. But if any of us throw a bottle in the nature, it will take 1 million years for it to decompose Of course there are more reasons to recycle glass. The garbage mountain will be smaller, the natural resources last longer and last but not least you can get some money if you recycle in deposit machines. It is only when everyone takes their own responsibility that we achieve an ecologically sustainable society. It is therefore important to have knowledge on how to recycle our waste. I n Sweden we recycle glass by leaving it at a recycling-stations, leave it in the deposit machines or at recycling centers. HANNA!
  • To make glass you need quartz sand, soda and lime. JULIA MB
  • Or you can use recycled glass and melt again. JULIA MB
  • The mixture is melted in hot ovens in 1600 degrees. The glass is formed before it has hardened. , and you do it by melting down broken glass, and then form it in to new glass products. We save almost 20 percent of the energy consumption by doing that. In Sweden more than 95 percent of the glass bottles we buying at the grocery store has been recycled at least once. JULIA N
  • When you’re going to recycle glass you throw it in igloos. There is a recycling station in almost every area in the whole Sweden where you can recycle almost everything. DAVID B
  • You can go to any food store where you can put bottles and cans in a special machine which give you a receipt. From that receipt you get 10 cents for every bottle. The receipt you give to the cashier and you get your money. ERIK
  • this is a summary First you throw the glass in the igloo Then a truck transports the glass The glass get washed Then it gets melted down And new bottles are made JULIA MB
  • Doesn’t the transport of the glass also impact the environment? DB New raw materials also have to be transported. It takes 20% less energy to melt recycled glass than melt raw material and make new glass. Also there is no carbon dioxide emission witch it is during making new glass. How many times can you recycle a bottle? HJ As many times as you like! What happens with metal lids and caps that stay on cans and bottles? ET We can sort them away in the fabric, but it’s easier if you take them away before you recycle the bottles. Can you throw every sort of glass in the recycle containers? JMB No, you can only recycle glass packages, and that means cans and bottles. You can’t throw bulbs or crystal glass in the containers for example. Those have to special sorted. Who empties the recycle containers, and how often is it done? JN There are employees of the city who work with that. It depends on how big containers, and how much it is usually thrown in just that area. Are the different colors of glass mixed during the transport? DK No, they don’t mix the colors. The trucks divide the colors when it´s transported. The sorting continues during the whole recycling.
  • This is how many percent of all bottles which are recycled. DAVID K
