    In contrast the apps and services we use to drive business process are often difficult to use, try and deploy. Some even make you pay extra for capabilities like visualization, workflow automation and predictive insights.
    We imagine a better world for business users everywhere. One where there is no artificial divide between CRM and ERP, where you have integrated solutions so you can track leads, automate field service, drive sales and improve operations using modern, mobile, enterprise-ready intelligent business apps from the cloud that are as easy to use as the consumer apps that help us all get rides, book rooms, listen to music and take actions to improve our health.

  • Microsoft is unifying all its business applications. Breaking down the artificial silo’s of ERP and CRM and delivering new purpose-built applications in the cloud.

  • These applications work seamlessly together to manage specific business processes across, Sales, Customer Service, Field Service, Operations, Project Service Automation and Marketing.
    Specifically on the marketing front, we want to note Microsoft’s recent announcement with Adobe, they are partnering with them to make Adobe Marketing Cloud the preferred marketing service for Dynamics 365 for the Enterprise Edition. This is exciting as we help businesses deliver compelling and personalized experiences through every phase of their customer relationships.   
    In addition, they are also introducing Dynamics 365 for Customer Insights, a new class of analytics applications from Microsoft. Customer Insights connects and analyzes data from Microsoft – and other widely used CRM, ERP, web, social and IoT sources – and applies intelligence to it to give you a 360-degree customer view with automatic suggestions to improve engagement.

    Now what makes Dynamics 365 unique is that it harnesses the power of One Microsoft. Data has become the new currency, and organizations create and have access to more of it, and faster than ever before. The challenge is how to transform it into intelligence that generates action and drive outcomes. Dynamics 365 will allow organizations to adopt individual business apps such as Marketing, Sales, Service and Operations, but as organizations adopt more of the apps, synergies will be unleashed in the form ‘Intelligent Business Processes’.  This will help proactively guide employees & customers to generate optimal outcomes.
    Take Project Service Automation as an example. Project teams can use it as standalone app in close alignment with Office 365, but when combined with Operations, the time and expense reports that project members submit, will automatically go to accounting, HR and Payroll systems, and Project Accounts will be automatically updated for Finance in the Operations App.
    It sounds basic… but the fact is that the classic delineation between CRM and ERP has created a separation in data and processes. Dynamics 365 breaks down this separation, and our business platform strategy together with CIT and IOT is centered on enabling this to new levels.
  • Let’s talk about the Dynamics 365 advantage. What makes it so well positioned in the market to change the way people use business applications today.
    Dynamics 365 brings together a unique set of capabilities for organizations.

    Dynamics 365 is:
    Purpose-built: with applications that fit roles, industries and businesses – so organizations can start with and pay only for what they need and grow at their pace to run their entire business in the cloud.   As an example – a customer can adopt Sales for Salesforce Automation, create quotes with standard prices and so on…. But as you grow and add Operations to it, the pricing that will show up when you quote customers will consider tax rules, pricing & discount calculations, and it will automatically impact the inventory and manufacturing forecasts in the Operations App for more accurate and cost effective planning.

    Productive: enabling greater productivity where people need it by seamlessly integrating with familiar tools like Outlook and Excel, surfacing them in the context of business processes, roles and jobs. For example, a sales person receives an email, and can respond directly in Office with a quote that is created based on information from both Finance and Sales applications, stored back to the right app, with right pricing, discounting etc. All without the user having to leave Outlook.

    Alternative example: A sales rep works on an opportunity in Dynamics 365 Sales with embedded access to multiple Productivity tools to more effectively progress the opportunity. The rep can collaborate with team members by sharing real-time updates in Yammer and across Groups, compiling team notes and input on the opportunity in OneNote, and seamlessly generating a quote in Word – all without leaving the context of the opportunity. 

    Intelligent: delivering built-in Intelligence with business processes that infuses big data, advanced analytics and IoT to proactively guide employees and customers to optimal outcomes.  For example, Cortana Intelligence will enable cross-sell recommendations to help sales reps predict which products and services a customer will need. Access to IoT data inside Dynamics 365 for Field Service will enable preemptive action from field service agents by connecting asset monitoring and anomaly detection so they can take action before failures occur avoiding costly customer service issues.

    Adaptable: enabling organizations to transform at the speed of business. Business leaders can change and evolve their processes in real-time using a modern consistent, and extensible platform – so they are not being held back by legacy technology. For example using PowerApps and the common data model you can create custom built apps that can connect your CRM and ERP or even third party data to help you get the right information to do your job.

    Dynamics 365 licensing is predominately user-based. When we think of users, we think of 2 categories, Light & Full

    Light is most of the people within a company …they look up customer information, they consume knowledge, they run reports, they complete light tasks like time and expense and create accounts or contacts. I am a perfect example of this. I approve POs, do expense reports and enter my vacation time. Our Team member SKU supports light users with a lower price point.

    Full users leverage the majority of functionality – think of a sales rep, customer service agent, HR manager or Finance manager that works in a business application every day.
    They can PURCHASE TWO WAYs
    APPS BASED – this is the traditional approach to licensing. A customer can license a user at an individual application level.
    PLAN BASED: this is the New Licencing model, which we are very excited about: - Plan based licensing allows a company to buys a single user licence with flexibility to leverage whatever functionality they need to fit their specific user types. This means companies can create real world roles for their employees – who might be primarily in manufacturing, but need to manage customer orders and field service orders.

    Offer tech savvy business customers/analysts, aka “citizen developers,” (using Power Apps, Power BI Embedded and Microsoft Flow) and professional developers (using Azure platforms services) a consistent business platform they can use to compose new apps and easily extend and modify existing ones.
    Come with connectors that let you integrate with applications and services from Microsoft and our partners - including custom API’s and on premise systems.

    We are also introducing Microsoft AppSource – Microsoft's new destination for business users to easily find and evaluate line of business SaaS apps, add-ins and content packs from Microsoft and our partners, including those built on top of Dynamics 365, Office 365, Cortana Intelligence and the Azure platform.  AppSource is available in preview and customers can try out more than 200 solutions.

    CITIZEN DEV understand business challenges and can quickly build and deliver solutions without writing code.

    PRO DEV easily extend capabilities for power users and take advantage of rich platform services such as Azure.

    In the past, you customized business applications by editing the source code. This created complications because each organization had unique changes and it was very difficult, or extremely expensive, to upgrade. Then, application developers started exposing application programming interfaces (APIs) so that other developers could interact with the application and add their own logic without touching the source code. This was moderately better because it means developers can extend the application without changing it. But it still requires a developer to write code.

    Today, modern business applications use a metadata-driven architecture so that people can customize the application without writing code. Metadata means “data about data” and it defines the structure of the data stored in the system. With this metadata, an application knows about any changes to the data structure and this enables the application to adapt as the data structure changes. Since the metadata is known, additional capabilities can be included that are tied to the metadata.

    When you configure using the configuration tools in the application, you’re adding or updating the metadata or data used by features that depend on the metadata. Because we know the kinds of data used to configure the system, we can take this data into account and add new features without breaking your system. This way you should always be able to apply an update rollup or upgrade to the latest version and enjoy the best new features.

    We expect that you can do most of your configurations with the tools provided. Everything you do by using those tools is supported by Microsoft because they apply changes to the metadata or data that depends on the metadata.

    But, if the configuration tools don’t meet your needs, you can install a solution provided by a third party or hire a developer to code your customizations by building custom business logic or custom integrations & workflows.

    Configure or Customize – Microsoft offers organizations choice. Organizations are not limited to out of the box business processes and are empowered to extend these to their requirements. Choice and robust tooling ultimately reduces time to value and total cost of ownership for any organization that requires flexibility, adaptability and growth.

  • App Designer lets you quickly create simple (single entity) or complex (multi-entity) modular apps. The app designer, which is a tile-based information structure, makes the process of designing apps much simpler because of its intuitive interface. You can simply pick the required set of components such as forms, views, dashboards, charts, and process flows, and create simple or complex apps. These are modular apps under the context of Dynamics 365.

    Visual Process Designer is a simplified user interface for business process flows, task flows, and business rules. The design environment is based on a visual drag-and-drop interface.

    Workflow Designer is a design environment to create or modify workflows.

    Organizations often time require rapid building of purpose-built custom LOB apps. These may require data from many sources whether these are from cloud services, on-premise data, or business applications such as Dynamics 365.

    PowerApps and Flow provide integration via Connectors and Gateways that make it possible for organizations to get data out of services they are already using.

    Connector for Dynamics 365 (AX/CRM) is a purpose built connector to get data out of Dynamics 365 apps.
    Connectors for cloud services is a custom built connector organization can build to get data out of services.
    On-Premises Data Gateways make it possible to get data out of in-house LOB solutions/apps.

    New: Office 365 integration using SharePoint Modern lists

  • 1. Mobile apps are very popular these days. By using industry standard protocols like SOAP and OData in your app code, your modern or mobile apps can connect to Microsoft Dynamics 365 web services, execute custom business logic, and access organization data.

    2. A plug-in is custom business logic (code) that you can integrate with Dynamics 365 to modify or augment the standard behavior of the platform. Another way to think about plug-ins is that they are handlers for events fired by Microsoft Dynamics 365. You can subscribe, or register, a plug-in to a known set of events to have your code run when the event occurs.

    3. In Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Operations, you can customize model elements by creating extensions. Unlike the overlayering capabilities of Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012, extensions don’t overlay the baseline model elements. Instead, extensions are compiled as a separate assembly that adds to or customizes the model and the associated business logic. You can extend metadata, for example, by adding a field to a table or adding a control to a form, and also extend or customize business logic by defining event handlers and plug-in classes. You can now author event handlers on several pre-defined events on tables, forms, form data sources, form controls, and others. Plug-ins are also a new extensibility concept that enables replacing or extending the business logic of the application.

  • On July 6, Microsoft announced Dynamics 365 to the market – the next generation of intelligent business applications in the cloud. They also announced AppSource, the new destination for business users to find and evaluate line of business SaaS applications.

    With Dynamics 365, they’re unifying our CRM and ERP cloud solutions and delivering new purpose-built applications across sales, customer service, operations, field service and more. It aso harnesses the power of One Microsoft, combining business applications and processes with the power of big data, advanced analytics and IOT, as well as deep integration with Office 365 for productivity.

    The news coverage was amazing! We had nearly broad global media placements – Including Forbes, the Wall street journal, Bloomberg and Techcrunch.

    It also got great reaction from industry analysts. For example, Nucleus Research points out that few other players offer a common platform and data model for CRM and ERP… and none bring in the Office productivity capabilities as Microsoft can!

    Microsoft also announced in September that Dynamics 365 won the HPI business against Salesforce and Oracle with our largest ever CRM deal – again with great pickup from the media!
