The years were 1938 to 1943. By his research andunderstanding this study made it more clear. Kanner observed differentchildren and had to do many tests and compare the difference in eachchild to make sure his studies were correct.JAMIE L MAZZI Saturday, May 7, 2011 9:45:00 PM ET
  • 6. What is Autism First signs begin at birth or early childhood. A developmental disorder. Affects child socially, emotionally, and mentally. • Autism and PDD Support Network. “What is Autism.” Autism PDD. N.p., 2007. Web. 3 Mar. 2011. <http:/‌http://www.autism-pdd.net/>. http://www.autismclassroom.com/strategies/parents/communication-encouragement/Autism is a severe developmental disorder. Children who have thisdisorder appear and look to be normal but do not act like it. Thedisorder is different in each person who has it. The cases of autism canrange. Some only have it very lightly and are able to interact withothers. In other cases they might not be able to talk. That is why i findautism so interesting because it affects everyone so differently.JAMIE L MAZZI Saturday, May 7, 2011 9:45:00 PM ET
  • 7. Signs of Autism Main Problem Areas Social, Language, Behavior Signs usually start when child is born. • Autism and PDD Support Network. “What is Autism.” Autism PDD. N.p., 2007. Web. 3 Mar. 2011. <http:/‌http://www.autism- pdd.net/>. http://www.southasianparent.com/parenting-101/cultural-autism/Mostly researchers look for a delay in social interaction, the way theyact and speak. Those are the three main areas health professors lookfor to find autism. Some childrens symptoms begin right at infancy andothers may not develop until they are toddlers. Those who have autismusually have a certain routine they are used to. If that routine were tochange they might tend to get confused.JAMIE L MAZZI Saturday, May 7, 2011 9:45:00 PM ET

There are alot of genes related to brain functions and theymay mutate causing autism. its said that 30-50% are inherited.JAMIE L MAZZI Saturday, May 7, 2011 9:45:00 PM ET
  • 16. Genetic? Usually more that one autistic child in a family gets it Passed on • Belli, Brita. “The Search for Autism.” MasterFILE Premier. N.p., 2010. Web. 3 Nov. 2010. <http:/‌http://web.ebscohost.com/‌ ehost/‌detail?vid=4&hid=107&sid=f3ad632b-f48d-4033-84a6-2006c019f004% http://empowerednews.net/hollywood-stars-and-celebrity-athletes-join-the-center-for-autism-in-raising- much-needed-funds-for-children-with-autism-at-act-today’Is it Genetic? This question is hard to answer because researchers arestill not positive of the answer. Even though there are families with oneautistic child there are many families with more than one autisitic child.Studies have shown that a gene with familial autism is found inchromosome 13. Autism is different in every family. Some families it ispassed on from generation to generation. Most families with autism donot have strong family history of the disorder.JAMIE L MAZZI Saturday, May 7, 2011 9:45:00 PM ET
  • 17. Is it Common? • “Improving the Lives of All Affected by Autism.” Autism Society. Autism Society, n.d. Now its found in every sixty of ten thousand. Itshown to be more common in boys than girls.JAMIE L MAZZI Saturday, May 7, 2011 9:45:00 PM ET
  • 18. Who does it effect? • Belli, Brita. “The Search for Autism.” MasterFILE Premier. N.p., 2010. Web. 3 Nov. 2010. <http:/‌http://web.ebscohost.com/‌ ehost/‌detail?vid=4&hid=107&sid=f3ad632b-f48d-4033-84a6-2006c019f004% http://louisville.edu/giving/autism/This relates back to how common autism is. BOys are more likely tohave autism with a 4 to 1 chance then girls but when girls do have thedisorder it is usually much more severe and has a greater impairmentfrom the world. There is no explanation to why this is but this is whatstudies have shown. Every day there is 1.5 million americans who areeffected with autism.JAMIE L MAZZI Saturday, May 7, 2011 9:45:00 PM ET
  • 19. Pervasive Development Delays in development of basic skills Age 3 symptoms show • Autism and PDD Support Network. “What is Autism.” Autism PDD. N.p., 2007. Web. 3 Mar. 2011. <http:/‌http:// www.autism-pdd.net/>. http://www.bloggingforautism.com/category/autism-therapy/Children with pervasive developmental disorder have delays is very basicskills that children at the age of three should already have and shouldhave no problems developing these basic motor skills. This disorder isawfully close to autism spectrum disorder and falls under the category. The definition of pervasive is to be present throughout which is not whatpervasive developmental disorder is. Children who have the disorder donot have issues in all areas but just one specific area. All other areas ofthe child function normally. The child with this disorder has problems incommunicating with others and social interactions. Also is there is anychange in their routine they will become very confused and aggravatedwith everyone around them.JAMIE L MAZZI Saturday, May 7, 2011 9:45:00 PM ET

Web. 3 Mar. 2011. <http:/‌http://www.autism-pdd.net/>. http://www.hitautism.com/eventsAgain a child who has autism do not show the signs of autism usuallyuntil they reach the age 3. They may show normal signs ofdevelopmental all the way up to 3. When that child does begin to showsigns they must go through a series of tests to be sure that this cause isautism. The major test are talking by practitioner who has a good background on autism and other disorders that relate to autism as well. Thepractitioner must perform a medical examination and a physicalexamination. If the doctors find weakness on one side of the body ofchild and more reflexes then usual then the doctor conducts that thechild has abnormal brain activity and needs and MRI examination.JAMIE L MAZZI Saturday, May 7, 2011 9:45:00 PM ET

Youshould not approach someone with autism that doesnt know you, letthem get to know you first. Autistic kids tend to keep to themselves formost of the time and also when put with a group of people they keeptheir distance from the group of people and like to do their own thingshowing little or no emotion at all.JAMIE L MAZZI Saturday, May 7, 2011 9:45:00 PM ET

The reason why parents are so keen onhaving this treatment for children is because the teacher comes intothe child’s home and having one on one teaching lesson with thatchild.JAMIE L MAZZI Saturday, May 7, 2011 9:45:00 PM ET
  • 24. Tests and Exams • Screen tests at an early age • Physical tests • “Improving the Lives of All Affected by Autism.” Autism Society. Autism Society, n.d. Web. 22 Dec. 2010. <http:/‌http:// www.autism-society.org/‌site/‌PageServer?pagename=about_whatis>. http://www.hitautism.com/eventsScreen tests start at early child when the child begins to show signs ofautism. The earlier these symptoms are found the easier it is for thedoctors to determine which of the types of autism the may child. Thefirst way anyone would recognize signs of autism spectrum disorderwould be in the childs behavior. If the child is distant and not verysocial there is a good chance the child has some form of autism or thebeginning stages. The next step is to test the child is physical tests.Such as physical examinations, their weights and height, hearing tests.JAMIE L MAZZI Saturday, May 7, 2011 9:45:00 PM ET

After an infant in born another way to avoiding autism is tohave your child put in early treatment. if there are any signs of yourchild having autism this is a good idea.JAMIE L MAZZI Saturday, May 7, 2011 9:45:00 PM ET

I got to see how they interacted with each other andthey each were completely different. For the baseball team, I wouldhelped them with there batting, fielding, and run around the bases withthem. I had to deal with each kid really differently because they all likedto do things a certain way.JAMIE L MAZZI Saturday, May 7, 2011 9:45:00 PM ET
