Each year, the Houston Symphony presents approximately 170 performances for more than 350,000
audience members. Established in 1913, it is one of the oldest performing arts organizations in the
United States, and it continues to enhance the cultural life of Houston. From the Houston Chronicle
Dollar Concert to the versatile Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pops at Jones Hall Series, the Houston
Symphony aims to bring Houstonians expertly executed classical performances.

Moreover, the symphony makes a difference in the local schools. For example, its “Music Matters!”
educational program, which puts on multiple free concerts for younger audiences, impacts more than
40,000 students. In addition, many members of the orchestra support the local community by offering
performances and lectures through the GDF SUEZ Community Connections program.
