  • The Swift School “My Child Has What?!” Tech-Know- Tech-Know-Logical Lab
  • Description of Agency • The Swift School provides education for students ages 5 to 12 with dyslexia and related language-based learning differences with skills to be successful in life.
  • Description of Proposed Project • The Swift School plans to use the grant to partially fund (69%) a weekly Assistive Technology computer lab for the cost of the instructor, construction, equipment, software and marketing. Instruction will be offered to currently enrolled Swift School students, Swift School alumni, and to the public as part of the “My Child Has What?” community outreach and education program. The proposed project will help parents and students learn to identify, select, and successfully use Assistive Technologies. Assistive Technologies include speech to text and text to speech programs, content mapping and assistive writing software. • The are no schools in the area providing education and training on assistive technologies open to the public.

  • Agency Strengths • The Swift School considers their students, families, teachers, and administrators to be their greatest strengths. • There is great passion and enthusiasm for helping students function well in and out of school with tangible reminders of success. • The school is committed to projects that will provide support for students and all who seek help by building confidence, self-esteem, self-reliance and skills that go beyond the school’s walls.
  • Agency Challenges • Their greatest challenges come from their goal to grow into the premier school for dyslexia in the Atlanta area and offer students and the community the greatest opportunity for success. This growth is contingent upon funding from sources outside their tuition revenue stream.
