  • It’s the Journey, Inc. producers of the Atlanta 2-Day Walk for Breast Cancer
  • Description of Agency
    • The mission of It’s The Journey, Inc. is to strengthen Atlanta’s breast cancer community by raising money and awareness for local Atlanta organizations that focus on breast cancer education, research, early detection, awareness and support services, as well as the unmet needs in the breast cancer community.
    • ITJ is a 501(c)(3) non profit organization, providing Atlanta based Breast Cancer organizations funding through grants.
  • It’s The Journey, Inc. supports the following services throughout 30 counties around the Metropolitan Atlanta area. Mammograms Diagnostic follow-up Transportation Research Education/awareness Genetic testing Providing 107 grants and 5.5 million dollars since 2003 Support Services
  • Description of Proposed Project
    • Atlanta 2-Day Walk for Breast Cancer
    • Funds will be used during the Annual walk to
    • offset the cost of the following walker services.
    • Nutritional Meals
    • Port-a-johns
    • Water/sport drinks
    • Medical services
    • Transportation
  • Project Costs and CG Grant Request
    • Projected cost for the 2009 Atlanta 2-Day walk for breast cancer is $450,000
    • ITJ is requesting a grant in the amount of $40,000.00 which will be used to offset the cost of walker services. This will allow ITJ to increase the number and amount of grants in order to support the unmet needs in the Atlanta breast cancer community.
    • ITJ is not a previous grant recipient
  • Agency Strengths
    • ITJ was founded in 2002 and to date has raised $5.5 million dollars. Approximately 72% of all dollars raised to date have been distributed in the form of grants to local breast cancer organizations. (ITJ replaced the AVON 2-day walk in Atlanta)
    • ITJ has established partnerships with local companies and organizations to secure sponsorships and donations to offset the cost of producing the annual 2-Day walk for breast cancer.
    • ITJ employees a staff of 4 full time associates, while utilizing additional contract services as needed and over 150 dedicated volunteers to successfully plan and execute the walk while meeting the year round needs of the organization and the walkers.

    • Finding new and unique ways to raise funds outside of the walk.
    • Increase community awareness of our organization and how we are different from the larger national walks.
