  • 2. Name and Duration of CourseThe course is titled as B. A English (Hons.) and is a three year undergraduatedegree in the study of English and world literature.Course DescriptionEnglish studies today is multi-disciplinary both in text, authors and genres. Thestudents will read and write on Shakespeare, Romantic poetry, Victorian poetry andthe novel. They will also have ample space to delve into Nobel award-winning post-colonial works from Africa, Asia, North and Latin America, and Modern Europe. TheEnglish Honours program is a platform and provides the student an opportunity tohonestly assess her/his aptitude and be able to carry it through the three years ofdiscovery and interchange.ObjectiveThe objective of this course is to capacitate the students to be able to understand theliteratures belonging to various ages and to be able to analyze and interpret thesame. By doing an in depth study of the different authors and genres, the studentswill explore and enhance their horizons pertaining to language and literature. Thiscourse will also develop their potential to make sound decisions about careeroptions.Learning Outcomes To be able to appreciate how ‘literary’ and ‘non-literary’ writing forms arerelated as rhetorical forms. To be aware and alert of the historical context to various periods. To be able to build up a working knowledge of English Literary history. To be able to situate the various canonical poets/writers in the context of thebroad conventions they wrote. To be able to comprehend movements like existentialism, surrealism,impressionism, imagism, Marxism, psychoanalysis, structuralism and postmodernism.
