    • In 2007, less than 2% of Ryan White direct service funds were allocated to MH services and about 1% were allocated for SA services
    • Not addressing the MH and SA needs of PLWHA can lead to negative health outcomes
      • impede adherence to antiretroviral regimens
      • prevent clients from obtaining medical care
  • 5. Project Overview
    • Purpose
      • determine the MH and SA service needs of PLWHA in Texas
      • create recommendations to facilitate access to effective treatment
    • Method
      • conduct document analysis on the comprehensive HIV needs assessments of 8 admin. agencies
      • examined themes regarding strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats
  • 6. Findings
    • Gaps in Continuum of Care
    • dearth of programming specifically designed for PLWHA
    • difficulty in providing all services in rural areas
    • lack of effective service coordination among providers
    • need for improved referral processes
    • Access to Services
    • inaccurate information on services & eligibility
    • long wait times & difficulties making appts.
    • problems with cost & transportation
    • need for further staff training
    • stigma
