Raising our Boys to become RealMen – Part 4Maud church of Christby Jim BradshawSunday Morning, June 9, 20131 Timothy 3:1-7
Raising our Boys to Become Real Men1Ti 3:4-7 NKJV one who rules hisown house well, having hischildren in submission with allreverence (5) (for if a man doesnot know how to rule his ownhouse, how will he take care of thechurch of God?); (6) not anovice, lest being puffed up withpride he fall into the samecondemnation as the devil. (7)Moreover he must have a goodtestimony among those whoare outside, lest he fall intoreproach and the snare of the devil.
Rules His own Household WellThe original word translated manage literally means “to stand before.”Household includes all who live under a persons house. Not just kids, wivesalso.A man should manage his house with dignity (ESV), but what is dignity?
DignityTrue honor; nobleness or elevation of mind, consisting in a high sense ofpropriety, truth and justice, with an abhorrence of mean and sinful actions;opposed to meanness. In this sense, we speak of the dignity of mind, anddignity of sentiments. This dignity is based on moral rectitude; all vice isincompatible with true dignity of mind. The man who deliberately injuresanother, whether male or female, has no true dignity of soul. (Webster’s1828)
Submissive ChildrenThe best way for a boy to learn to havehis own submissive children is to teacha child to honor and obey his parents.Eph 6:1-4 NKJV Children, obey yourparents in the Lord, for this is right. (2)"HONOR YOUR FATHER AND MOTHER,"which is the first commandment withpromise: (3) "THAT IT MAY BE WELLWITH YOU AND YOU MAY LIVE LONGON THE EARTH." (4) Andyou, fathers, do not provoke yourchildren to wrath, but bring them up inthe training and admonition of theLord.
Submissive ChildrenEph 5:17-21 NKJV Therefore do not beunwise, but understand what the will ofthe Lord is. (18) And do not be drunkwith wine, in which is dissipation; butbe filled with the Spirit, (19) speakingto one another in psalms and hymnsand spiritual songs, singing and makingmelody in your heart to the Lord, (20)giving thanks always for all things toGod the Father in the name of our LordJesus Christ, (21) submitting to oneanother in the fear of God.
Submissive ChildrenPhp 2:3-8 NKJV Let nothing be done throughselfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness ofmind let each esteem others better thanhimself. (4) Let each of you look out not onlyfor his own interests, but also for the interestsof others. (5) Let this mind be in you whichwas also in Christ Jesus, (6) who, being in theform of God, did not consider it robbery to beequal with God, (7) but made Himself of noreputation, taking the form of abondservant, and coming in the likeness ofmen. (8) And being found in appearance as aman, He humbled Himself and becameobedient to the point of death, even thedeath of the cross.

Their Friends areImportant1 Corinthians 15:33 ESV (33) Do not bedeceived: "Bad company ruins goodmorals."2 Corinthians 6:14 ESV Do not beunequally yoked with unbelievers. Forwhat partnership has righteousness withlawlessness? Or what fellowship has lightwith darkness?
A Good Testimony by Outsiders1Pe 3:15-18 NKJV But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, andalways be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you areason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear; (16)having a good conscience, that when they defame you asevildoers, those who revile your good conduct in Christ may beashamed. (17) For it is better, if it is the will of God, to suffer fordoing good than for doing evil. (18) For Christ also suffered once forsins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God, being putto death in the flesh but made alive by the Spirit,
