Your Scale is a Big Fat Liar!

  1. 1. Coach Jimmy Hays Nelson
  2. 2. Your biggest enemy in achieving your health and fitness goals doesn’t live in your refrigerator. It’s not your secret cookie stash. It doesn’t live anywhere in your kitchen at all.
  3. 3. For most people the #1 source ofdiscouragement and frustration probably lives in your bathroom. I affectionately call mine the ‘Lying Momentum Killer’. His name ….
  4. 4. Yep, that ‘tool’ that is suppose to gauge your weightloss success actually does more harm than good!I know what you are thinking….“Ok, that’s it - Coach Jimmy has officially lost his mind!”
  6. 6.  You decide you are ready to take action and finally do something about your growing waist line. You pick a program like P90X, TURBOFIRE or INSANITY. You are using your Shakeology and following the meal plan to a tee.
  7. 7.  Week 1 zooms by, you feel good, and yourconfidence is growing because you know your actionswill be rewarded by results. Because everyone loves to be applauded for hardwork, you turn to your good friend The Scale. “Surely, he will reward my hard work with afavorable report.”
  8. 8. What better way to measure progress than watching a countable, hard fact number decrease? That IS the goal after all right? So you step up on your trusty friend, anxious for the praise yourfeel you deserve. Then without warning, your friend betrays you with an ego-busting punch to the face.
  9. 9. He shows you ZERO weight loss, or even worse, a weight GAIN!!
  10. 10. How is this possible??? You are doing the workouts Your nutrition is spot on, and You deserve to see measureable results dammit … right? Then doubt creeps in.“This doesn’t work. I do everything right, but I’m notseeing results. I guess I’m just not meant to lose weight,I might as well give up.” ….. Sound familiar?
  11. 11. I tell my clients and the people on my team to weighthemselves before they start a program, and then hide the scale. Or better yet – get it out of the house!
  12. 12. I also stress the importance of taking those unpopular ‘before’photos and measurements. No one likes doing them. I mean, who really wants to stand halfnaked in front of a camera and take a picture? You’ve already decided to start a program because you weren’thappy with how you looked, isn’t that enough? No!
  13. 13. At the end of the day, true progress is measuredthrough loss of inches and decreased body fat percentage.
  14. 14. Your weight can fluctuate daily based on muscle gain, sodium intake, water retention, etc. Why subject yourself to the mental agony of looking at a number daily that isn’t a true barometer of the progress you are making?
  15. 15. Everyone is so obsessed with weight – with the actual number. It’s a label they attach to themselves so they can judge how they are doing.
  16. 16. But when you are in your second month of Turbo Fire and yourfriend tells you how amazing your butt looks in your newjeans, do you think they care what the scale says? All they know is you are rocking those new jeans, and they wantto get a hold of whatever it is you are doing. (Even though inmany cases you may have only fluctuated 2 or 3 pounds since youstarted.)
  17. 17. So pick your program, weigh yourself ONCE, take your before pictures and measurements, workclosely with a Coach that will speak encouragementinto you, and get ready to go shopping for those new jeans!
