  • 1. JACK O’ LANTERNS FOR JESUS Luke 11:33-36
  • 2.
    • Internal Light 11:33 “No one after lighting a lamp puts it in a hidden place or under a basket, but on a lampstand, so that those who come in can see the light. 11:34 Your eye is the lamp of your body. When your eye is healthy, your whole body is full of light, but when it is diseased, your body is full of darkness. 11:35 Therefore see to it that the light in you is not darkness. 11:36 If then your whole body is full of light, with no part in the dark, it will be as full of light as when the light of a lamp shines on you.”

  • 3. TAKE HOME
    • I may be a squatty pumpkin…but look at my mega-watt light, blazing through these eyes!
    • Stars in the night sky, landing lights at the airport, light houses on a craggy coast…that’s us people!
    • What is stirring inside eventually makes its way out…through our eyes.
    • It’s up to you…high beam or low?
  • 4. Opening Prayer
  • 5. Announcements
  • 6. Worship
  • 7. One Candle In A Dark Room Brings More Contrast Than A Shadow In A Room Of White
    • Look at a night sky… what do you see… stars or darkness?
      • “… children of God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation, in which you shine like stars in the universe, as you hold out the word of life…” --Philippians 2:15-16
    • One little candle totally changes a dark room.
      • “ Neither do people light a lamp an put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the room”. -- Matthew 5:15
  • 8. Jesus Is The Light …We Are His Reflectors And Lenses Through Whom He Shines
    • “ In Him was life and that life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it.” --John 1:4-5
    • Jesus is the light, but we tend the shutters. “Let your light shine…” suggests that we have a choice about how bright we will let Jesus shine through us. Matthew 5:16
    • The Parable of the Lighthouse …a functioning lamp or an ornamental tourist attraction?
  • 9. Disconnected From The Power Source, Lights Are More Danger Than Help, In The Dark
    • A believer who has lost his/her connection with Jesus …a handicap, nuisance and headache.
    • Landing lights with no power …disaster waiting to happen.
    • A light under a bowl …what’s the point?
    • We are useful to the Kingdom when others can see our good works ‘in such a way’ that they give God the glory. What would that look like?
  • 10. I believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God. I trust him as my Lord and Savior. Confession
  • 11. Worship
  • 12. Offering
  • 13. Worship
  • 14. Why Would Anybody Not Want To Shine For Jesus?
    • Peter knew the power of fear. “I don’t know the man!” --Matthew 26:72
    • “ They were stoned; thy were sawed in two; they were put to death by the sword. They went about in sheepskins and goatskins, persecuted and mistreated…the world was not worthy of them…” --Hebrews 11:37, 38
    • Letting Jesus shine through you can get you into a few scrapes (Consider II Corinthians 11:21-33).
  • 15. Shining Bright And Clear, Come What May, Is A Believer’s Duty And Joy
    • Rehearse for it
    • Expect the darkness to mock your light
    • Lean on Jesus for your strength
    • Join your light to others…ever see a stadium lit up with candles or flashlights? Wow!
    • Get recharged on a regular basis.
  • 16. Prayer
  • 17. TAKE HOME
    • I may be a squatty pumpkin…but look at my mega-watt light, blazing through these eyes!
