  3. 3. Acts 13:44-48 TNIVKey Passage 44 On the next Sabbath almost the whole city gathered to hear the word of the Lord. 45 When the Jews saw the crowds, they were filled with jealousy. They began to contradict what Paul was saying and heaped abuse on him. 46 Then Paul and Barnabas answered them boldly: "We had to speak the word of God to you first. Since you reject it and do not consider yourselves worthy of eternal life, we now turn to the Gentiles. 47 For this is what the Lord has commanded us: " I have made you a light for the Gentiles, that you may bring salvation to the ends of the earth. " 48 When the Gentiles heard this, they were glad and honored the word of the Lord; and all who were appointed for eternal life believed.

  5. 5. Commitment Lord, I know that sometimes I nudge you out of the mainstream of my life. Acquaintances might not know that I love and follow you. Help me to keep you central in my life. Convict me when I refuse to identify with you for fear of being rejected or thought to be weird. I love you and want that to be known.

The Familiar Storyof the Coming Messiah● Time line of Hebrew history● Our people prospered in Egypt● He led them out into the desert● He overthrew the 7 nations of Canaanand gave the land to his people● All of that took about 450 years● In Canaan we had judges, then prophetsand finally kings, starting with Saul● His son, David, succeeded Saul, and wasgenerally obedient to God● From David‟s descendants came ourSavior, Jesus, as promised

This message has come to us!● The people of Jerusalem did not recognizeJesus, but condemned him to death.● Without legal grounds they had him executed, aswas prophesied.● But God raised him up and we are witnesses of this.● What God promised our fathers he fulfilled in ourtime.● Here is the core of the message: Through Jesus youcan have forgiveness.● The law of Moses could not justify a person. Butthrough Jesus everyone who believes is justified.

WAYS TO KILL JESUS● Reject his claims and authority● Hide your witness…put your candle under a basket.● Take credit for the good stuff thatcomes your way.● Indifference● Not giving God credit● Non-recognition of Jesus● Hearing, but not doing, what youknow to be right● Diluted loyalties (SpiritualAdultery)

  25. 25. THE ALTERNATIVE TO KILLING JESUS● Confess him as Lord● Communicate your confession to others● Give God the credit for blessings and strength● Include him in conversations about real life● Keep in touch● Honor his body, the church
