Sowwah Island | Abu Dhabi<br />The development of Al Sowwah Island is a key objective to emerge from the “Plan Abu Dhabi 2030” Urban Structure Framework Plan, adopted in September 2007, representing an integral component of the capital’s future vision. <br />Al Sowwah Island is located as a primary connection between the more traditional, lower density areas that characterize much of Abu Dhabi Island, and new developments of Al Reem Island,<br />Mina Zayed, and Saadiyat Island.<br />Al Sowwah Island comprises an area of approximately 105 ha, with the original area enlarged through reclamation. As the new Central Business District of Abu Dhabi, Al Sowwah Island has a significant business and employment focus.<br />Al Sowwah Island is connected to Abu Dhabi and surrounding islands by a total of 13 bridges, which are designed to provide adequate clearance to allow the continued use of the existing channels for marine craft.<br />3<br />
