Learning Content Topic: Volume of Rectangular Prism References: Geometry III page 34; Mathematics for a better life IV page 236 – 237 Materials: Jigsaw puzzle, rectangular prisms, Cartolina, Manila paper, marker, chalk and Blackboard. ( Pupils will exchange their notebook s) Bring-out your assignment and exchange notebook with your seatmates Anyone of you who can solve for the (Selected pupil will solve for the volume of the given cube, in your volume of the given Cube.) assignment, in the board? V= s x s x s V = 4 cm x 4 cm x 4cm V= 16 cm x 4 cm V= 64 cm Very good! Explain your work. (Pupil will explain his or her work.) Very good! 4. Review Class we’ve tackled yesterday about volume of a cube. Who can give me again the formula we can use to find the volume of a cube. V=sxsxs Very good. I have a cube here. It’s side is equal to 3 cm. What would be its volume? Anyone of you who can solve for the volume the given cube on the board? Very good. 5. Motivation Class, have you ever played a Jigsaw puzzle? Ok, I have 7 sets of jigsaw puzzle here. Each group will be given one set of it. Form the puzzle as fast as you can. The fastest who can form the puzzle and post it on the board is the winner of the game. The winner will be receive an additional 5 points in our activity later. Setting of Standard (Selected pupil will solve for the volume of the given rectangular prism.) V=3cm x 3cm x 3 cm V= 9 cm x 3 cm V = 27 cm Yes Sir!

What do you think now is the formula in getting the volume of a Rectangular Prism? V= L x W x H Very good! I have here a Rectangular Prism. Its length is equals to 7 cm, its width is equals to 5 cm and its height is equals to 3 cm. What would be its volume? Let’s try to get the volume of this rectangular prism using the formula you had given and using the given value. Ok, so what are the given values? Give one Very good! So we have now the following given: L= 7cm W= 5cm H= 3cm L= 7cm W=5cm H= 3 cm
  5. 5. Let us now apply the formula you identify a while ago. Again what is the formula again? Very good! And that is the first step right? Ok. After identifying the formula to use in getting the volume of a Rectangular Prism, what would be the next step? Let us now substitute the given values on the formula. V=LxWxH Very good! And after substituting the given values, what would be the next step? Perform the indicated operation. And what is the operation? Multiplication Sir! Very good! So 7cm x 5 cm is equal to? 35 cm And 35 cm x 3 cm is equal to? 105 cm Yes Sir! Substitute the given values V = 7 cm x 5 cm x 3 cm Very good! Therefore the volume of this rectangular prism is 105 cubic centimeters. Again what is the unit of measure used in finding the volume of any spatial figure? In Cubic centimeters Sir! Ok, do you want another example? Yes Sir! Ok, so suppose that the length of this Rectangular Prism is 4 cm; the width is 5 cm; and the height is 3 cm, what would be its Volume? Again class what is the first step in getting the volume of any spatial figure? Identify the formula we are going to use. Very good! And after that step what would be the second step? Substitute the given values! Very good! And the third step is? Perform the given or indicated operation!
  6. 6. Multiplication Sir! And what is the operation? Box your final answer. Very good! After performing the indicated operation/s what would be the last step? Very good! 3cm 5 cm 4 cm V=LxWxH V = 4 cm x 5 cm x 3 cm V = 20 cm x 3 cm V = 60 cm 2. Enrichment Activity Very good! Let us have another figure 2 cm 4 cm 8cm ( the second problem will solve by the selected pupils in the board) (s/he explain his answer ) V=LxWxH V= 8 cm x 4 cm x 2 cm V =32 cm x 2 cm V = 64 cm Well done!
