    • Birthrate - # of live births/ 1000 people
      Average – 22/1000
      Mortality rate - # of deaths/ 1000 people
      Does not represent the health of a nation
      Infant mortality rate - # of deaths among infants under 1 year old/ 1000 live births
      birthrate – mortality rate = Rate of natural increase
    • Population Pyramid
      Divides people by age and gender
      Can see the affects of wars, famines, or epidemics in a population
    • Population Distribution
      Habitable lands – have suitable climate and vegetation for living
      Heavily populated along rivers and coast lines
      Arable lands – land good for farming
      Migration
      Push – Pull factors
      Push = cause people to leave
      Pull = draws people in
    • Population Density
      Average # of people who live in a measurable area (square mile)
      Not accurate when looking at large areas
      Carrying capacity - # of organisms (people, animals, plants) a piece of land can support
