Cell Cycle Cell Cycle Presentation Transcript

    • Cell Cycle and Cell Division
    • Cell Division
      • - the process a cell undergoes in order to make copies of itself.
      • Why do cells divide?
    • DNA & Chromosomes
      • DNA is chromatin strands and chromosomes
    • Interphase (about 90% of the cell cycle time)
      • Cell mature
      • Chromosomes copy themselves
    • Mitosis: Prophase
      • Nuclear membrane disappears
      • Spindle fibers form at the poles of the cell
    • Mitosis: Metaphase
      • Chromosomes line up at the middle
      • 2 Spindle fibers attach to each centromere
    • Mitosis: Anaphase
      • Centromeres split and the fiber strands pull the chromosomes to each pole
    • Mitosis: Telophase
      • 2 new nuclei form at two poles of the cell where chromosomes have gathered
      • Mitosis (division of one nucleus into two identical nuclei) is complete
    • Cytokinesis Two new daughter cells are formed
