  • Mending or altering, fame and anonymity, finding inspiration in the past and the contemporary, collections and junk drawers, a place to hide, leaving your mark, put your best face forward, ability and disability, catharsis, activism, chronicling, a different world or the great escape, just beneath the surface, juxtaposition
  • Mole skin is fanciest and most traditional with strap to keep it together and nice heavy paper for both painting and drawing, when choosing any sketchbook feel the paper, does it feel too smooth or thin for what you will be doing?
  • Hand bound sketchbooks – if this is the route you want to go- you need to get on it today. Otherwise your 1st assignment will be due and you will still be researching book binding
  • The text shows through and creates a texture and serves a purpose in each page. These are generally mixed media and can even have sculptural or cut away areas. If you want to do this, go to the library and tell them you are making an altered book for art and do they have any old books they are tossing?
