  • Overview  Content Management systems (CMS) offer the promise of:     publishing tools, user authentication, modular structure and support for plugins, among many to build a professional websites
  • Overview  Joomla/Mambo are both   a CMS and one of the highest profile open source LAMP projects going, boasting a substantial user community and a number of open source awards
  • Overview Is Joomla! a fork of Mambo?     Some call it a fork. Some call it a spoon. Some call it an entire table setting. Whatever your philisophical persuasion, the facts are that Joomla is a continuation of the work of the Development Team which unanimously resigned from the Mambo project in August 2005.
  • Overview How do the versions compare?     Joomla version 1.0 is derived from Mambo 4.5.2.3 but includes many additional bug fixes and security patches. Joomla version 1.5 is an extensive refactoring of the API as is Mambo version 4.6 to its codebase. Both applications continue maintain a similar user inferface (look and feel) Joomla 1.5 also includes many new features such as additional authentication models (LDAP, Gmail, etc), xml-rpc client-server support.
  • Overview Will Mambo addons continue to work in Joomla! ?  Addons (templates, components, modules, mambots and language packs) designed for Mambo 4.5.2 will generally run on Joomla 1.0.  Mambo addons designed for version 4.6 will likely not run on Joomla, nor will extensions designed for Joomla 1.5 run on Mambo.
  • Pre-installation  Requirements      PHP version >= 4.1.0 MySQL support Apache Webserver zlib compression support XML support
  • Installation  Installation takes place in 6 steps:       pre-installation check license step 1 - MySQL database configuration step 2 - Enter the name of your Joomla site step 3 - Confirm the site URL, path, admin e-mail and file/directory chmods step 4 - Congratulations! Joomla is installed
  • Post-Installation  There are 2 major areas: Administration Area  Public Website Area 

  • Post-Installation – Administration – Front Page, Sections & Categories  Manage content in front page  Manage Sections (eg: News)  Sections have many categories (eg: Latest News)  Manage Categories (eg: Latest News)  Each category belongs to one section
  • Post-Installation – Administration – Media, Menu, User, Configuration  Manage media such as images  Manage Menu sections/items  Manage Site Users and roles  Configure system settings
