  • 2. Reagan sure left a Legacy
    • The economic boom of the 80’s led America to elect another Republican President
    • America elected George H. W. Bush in 1988
    • He too was concern about domestic issues!
    • “ Read my lips…no new taxes”

    • However, due the spending Reagan had done this would almost be impossible
    • Bush had inherited a growing national deficient and a slowing economy.
    • This slowing was in part due to the end of the Cold War
  • 4. George Bush
    • With the Cold War ending in 1991, the need for a large military was over
    • Thousands of soldiers, workers were released
    • Companies were downsizing, laying workers off
    • Bush would have to break his campaign promises
  • 5. The Persian Gulf War
    • Bush would also be caught up in a war in Iraq
    • Said we would not allow countries to bully others.
    • With Saddam Hussein's invasion of Kuwait and the US interest in the oil
    • We launched operation Desert Storm and Shield
    • The war would last just 100 days

    • Clinton’s election in 1992 was filled with grand plans for America
    • Clinton promised to reform health care
    • Tried to develop a plan to cover all Americans
    • People feared it would cost too much, put too much pressure on small business and relied on government control
    • His plan died before ever coming to a vote

    • Worked to help American families
    • Provided increased funding for educational programs
    • Created a gun control law, requiring a waiting period
    • Anti-crime bill to provide more money for prisons and put more officers on the street

    • His term as president had people looking for a change… a president, that well…wasn’t him…
