ALSD KEYNOTE SPEAKER Scott O’Neil was named president, Madison Square Garden Sports in July 2008. In this role, he oversees all aspects of business operations for the three professional sports teams, the New York Knicks, Rangers and Liberty, as well as the Sports Properties area, which includes college basketball, boxing, tennis and all other sports events. He also manages marketing partnerships and suite sales for the soon to be renovated Garden. Since joining Madison Square Garden, O’Neil has attracted premier talent from around the sports world to lead the business in establishing an innovative, passionate and results-oriented culture. He has directed a refocused commitment to providing first class service to fans, subscribers and marketing partners, resulting in growth across all areas of the division. O’Neil comes to Madison Square Garden from the National Basketball Association, where, as senior vice president, he oversaw the league’s team marketing and business operations, advising NBA and WNBA teams on ticket sales and service, sponsorship development and marketing. He also managed the NBA’s Canadian business and the NBA Development League. Prior to joining the NBA, he oversaw the launch of HoopsTV and honed his sales and marketing expertise with the Philadelphia Eagles and New Jersey Nets. O’Neil was named to Street and Smith’s Sports Business Journal Forty Under 40 Hall of Fame and was named one of the nation’s top marketing executives under 40 by Advertising Age in 2006. He is also a member of Young Presidents’ Scott o’Neil Organization (YPO), a not-for-profit, global network of chief executives connected around the shared mission of becoming President, madison square Garden sports better leaders through education and idea exchange. O’Neil dedicates his time to working with a number of non-profit organizations, including serving as a board member for the Garden of Dreams Foundation, the non-profit charity that Sunday, June 27th at 4:00 pm works with all areas of Madison Square Garden to “make dreams come true for kids in crisis.” In addition, he is on the Advisory Board for the Each One Counts Foundation and a board member for the TRU Foundation. ALSD KEYNOTE SPEAKER Whether it’s football, life or a business, bill Cowher believes that everyone should be instilled with three critical points. Everyone needs the right game plan, the right people and environment surrounding them and the right approach to achieve all your goals. Cowher overcame adversity and many obstacles to win 161 games as he compiled the right game plan, molded the right players, surrounded himself with the right coaches and had the attitude and mindset to envision victory every day he stepped on the field. In 2007, Cowher joined Cbs sports to bring his experience, knowledge and passion for the game as an analyst for the Network’s NFL studio show, THE NFL ToDAY. He was also a participant on the fast-paced reality show, Fast Cars and super stars, where he impressed fans with his driving abilities. bill Cowher led the steelers to their first super bowl title in 26 years in 2005. He was the longest-tenured head coach in the NFL before stepping down following the 2006 season after 15 years with the steelers. His 15 seasons with the steelers ranks ninth in NFL history for longest head coaching service with one team. Cowher was only the team’s second head coach since 1969 after taking over for legendary head coach Chuck Noll on January 21, 1992 at the age of 34. In 1995 at age 38, he became the youngest head coach to lead his team to the super bowl when the steelers played the Dallas Cowboys in super bowl XXX. Cowher’s steelers teams earned ten post-season berths, captured eight division titles, advanced to six AFC Championship games, made two super bowl appearances and won one super bowl title. He led the steelers to post-season appearances in each of his first six seasons, tying an NFL record originally set by Cleveland Bill Cowher browns legendary head coach Paul brown. Cowher is one of only six coaches in NFL history to claim at least eight division titles. During Former Head Coach, Pittsburgh steelers his 15 seasons, the steelers tied with New England for the league’s most division titles and posted the NFL’s best overall record in the regular season. Cowher ended his coaching career with an overall record of Monday, June 28th at 6:00 pm 161-99-1 (.619), including a 149-90-1 (.623) mark in the regular- season. His records with the team rank only second to Noll’s overall (209-156-1; .572) and regular-season (193-148-1; .556) records. Cowher’s regular-season (.623) and overall (.619) winning percentages are the highest in steelers history. Cowher played five years as a linebacker and special teams standout for the Cleveland browns (1980-82) and the Philadelphia Eagles (1983-84). He began his coaching career as a special teams coach in 1985 under marty schottenheimer and followed him to Kansas City as the eventual defensive coordinator before moving to Pittsburgh as head coach. A native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Cowher was born on may 8, 1957. He played linebacker for four years at North Carolina state University and graduated with a bachelor of science degree in Education in 1979. ALSD KEYNOTE SPEAKER mark Lamping was named president and CEo of the New meadowlands stadium Company LLC on April 1, 2008. Lamping, who reports directly to the board of directors of this joint venture between Jets Development LLC and Giants stadium LLC, oversees construction and operations of what is not only the new home for two iconic NFL franchises but will be the sports and entertainment capital of the region. Lamping manages all business operations related to the new stadium, including but not limited to its legal, sales and marketing and government affairs, design and development and third-party event business. In addition to the minimum of 20 NFL games that will be played at the New meadowlands stadium each season, the stadium will host events ranging from college football to international soccer tournaments to major concerts and more. Prior to joining the New meadowlands stadium Company, mark was the president of the st. Louis Cardinals from september 1, 1994 until march 31, 2008. In addition to the club’s 1996, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2005 Central Division titles and 2004 National League Championship, the Cardinals earned their 10th World Championship in 2006. In 1999 and again in 2003, the Cardinals were honored by United sports Fans of America as major League baseball’s Fan Friendly Team for their superior efforts to make a day at the ballpark more affordable and enjoyable. In addition to managing the club’s business and facility operations, Lamping led the Cardinals new ballpark initiative. on April 10, 2006, opening Day, the Cardinals officially dedicated the new privately financed ballpark, busch stadium. The perfect ending to the inaugural season at new busch stadium was the Cardinals winning their 10th World Championship. Mark Lamping In February 1994, Lamping was appointed commissioner of the Continental basketball Association. Prior to that, Lamping President and CEo, served as Anheuser-busch’s group director of sports marketing for five years. In that position, he managed the company’s TV and radio New meadowlands stadium Company LLC sports production division and all domestic and international sports marketing activities for Anheuser-busch’s beer brands, including sponsorship agreements for the olympics, the World Cup and all major professional sports, including major League baseball, the Tuesday, June 29th at 6:00 pm National Football League, the National Hockey League and the National basketball Association. Louis native, Lamping holds a bachelor of science degree in Accounting from rockhurst University in Kansas City and a masters degree in business Administration from saint Louis University. The innovation of the Winter Classic outdoor game has turned New Year’s Day into a celebration of hockey. The implementation of four-on-four overtime and the ‘shootout’ eliminated tied games during the regular season. The implementation of the two-referee system has revolutionized hockey officiating around the world.
