Dear Judges:
My name is Jasmine Fahrnbauer. I play soccer for Creekview and in the fall of this year I
plan on attending Troy University on a soccer scholarship. I am very dedicated to staying
healthy and active. I plan on majoring in health and nutrition and hopefully one day
becoming a Nutritionist. For my senior project, I decided to create a family cookbook.
My grandmother gave me this idea one day while we were at a family birthday gathering.
She wanted one of her grandchildren to create a cookbook to make sure all our family
recipes were written down and able to be passed down from generation to generation.
For my research paper, I decided to explore the art of home cooking. I found that over the
years, the number of families who still have home cooked meals everyday are greatly
decreasing. I wanted to discover what kind of problems this lifestyle is causing, which
lead me to the topic of my research paper, the effects of childhood obesity. Through my
research, I found that the majority of Americans eat fastfood or go out to eat on a daily
basis, thus causing the art of home cooking to slowly becomea lost art. I discovered that
the majority of people this lifestyle directly affected were children. The lack of nutrition
these children receive from these fast food diets caused them to become increasingly
obese giving them issues that will follow them for the rest of their lives. Healthy home
cooking is one of the easiest ways to prevent childhood obesity.Reading about the effects
of poor nutrition encouraged me to better my diet and decreased my desire to eat fast
food. I was able to share my findings with my family members and friends.
I would love to pursue a career as a nutritionist or a sports nutritionist. I always wanted to
have a job that involved staying healthy and active. Through my research, I found it very
interesting that what you put into your body couldaffect so many different aspects of your
life such as moodiness, social status, self confidence, and your outlook on life. I also
learned that I am a procrastinator, but I also am someone who is easily motivated to
finish something when I set my mind to it.
Senior Project was a great way to make students look into their future and think about
what they wanted to do when they graduate. I thought it was a neat way of giving
students the opportunity to learn something new or do something they enjoy and get
graded and feedback on it. I know that this personally has been a great experience for me
and I got to learn a new skill in the process. Thank you for your time!
Sincerely,
Jasmine Fahrnbauer
