IceCycle + Thermal Energy Storage - Presentation Transcript

    1. C apture the E nergy with … Ice Cycle
    2. Thermal Energy Storage (TES)
      • Simple, proven, & accepted technology.
      • Common on large facilities over 100,000 square feet.
      • TES has not been available for smaller unitary equipment used in homes and small commercial.
      • Ice Cycle is a new, proven TES technology for small to medium sized cooling applications.
    3. How Ice Cycle Performs
      • IceCycle captures & stores air-conditioning energy during nighttime off-peak periods, when electricity is less expensive.
      • Stored energy is used for air conditioning during the daytime peak periods, when electricity is much more expensive.
      • IceCycle uses only 5 to 10% of conventional air conditioning energy during the peak period.
      • IceCycle saves up to 20% of air conditioning operating costs through superior efficiency and by operating in cooler nighttime temperatures.
      • IceCycle manages appliance load in peak periods (water heaters, pool pumps, etc).
    4. Off-Peak Cooling On-Peak Cooling Off-Peak Cooling Off-Peak Cooling
      • Ice Cycle shifts cooling load to less expensive, off-peak periods.
      • Cooler, nighttime HVAC operation is up to 20% more efficient.
    5. Green Building Market Exploding McGraw-Hill Construction/National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) Survey $ Billions
    6. Ice Cycle is Energy Efficient Green Technology
      • Qualifies for Leadership in Energy Efficient Design (LEED) Certification.
      • Shifts energy demand to more efficiently use current generation and transmission assets.
      • Reduces the need for new power plants and new transmission lines.
      • Lowers electric transmission congestion during peak periods.
      • “ Night-time TES use reduces source energy consumption by 8 to 34 percent” (California Energy Commission Study).
      • Lowers polluting emissions increasing current generation efficiency and lowering the need for new generation.
      • Reduces potential blackouts and brownouts by lowering peak demand on the transmission grid, .
      • Increases air conditioning energy efficiency and lowers energy cost.
      • Manages the load of other appliances during peak periods.
      • The cleanest and greenest energy is the energy we save.
    7. Our Journey
      • 2003 CONCEPT:
      • Easy to Understand
      • Easy to Install
        • Retrofit without entering building
        • Install quickly at minimal cost
      • Easy to Manufacture
      • Duplicates Compressor Operation
        • Inside AC unit remains unaffected
        • Conventional system runs normally if storage depletes or fails
      • Energy Efficient
        • Reduces energy use and shifts to low cost off-peak energy

    10. Ice Cycle Home
      • Low profile energy storage tank for residential & small commercial
        • At grade, buried, or remotely located
      • Elevated condenser coil – up to 36% improved efficiency*
        • Better air flow to coil
        • Avoids coil obstruction from grass clippings, vegetation, dirt, & dust
*Carrier Corporation states that a clean coil performs 36% more efficiently than a moderately dirty coil.
    11. Ice Cycle Retro
      • Retrofits to conventional DX air conditioning units.
      • Installs with no changes inside the structure.
      • Works with any refrigerant-based HVAC equipment (split systems, package rooftop units, ductless systems, etc).
      • Shifts 90-95% of HVAC energy consumption to off-peak.
      • Condenser or rooftop unit operate as if the IceCycle TES system was not there in conventional mode.
        • Adds redundancy to system.
        • Adds dependability safeguard.
