Deficiency of the nutrient results in : disease in the affected organism. In single-celled organisms such asbacteria and yeast, low levels of magnesiummanifests in greatly reduced growth rates. In magnesium transport knockout strainsof bacteria, healthy rates are maintained onlywith exposure to very high externalconcentrations of the ion.[14] [15] In yeast, mitochondrial magnesiumdeficiency also leads to disease.[16]

Deficiency of the nutrient results in : Plants deficient in magnesium show stressresponses. The first observable signs of bothmagnesium starvation and overexposure inplants is a decrease in the rate ofphotosynthesis. This is due to the centralposition of the Mg++ ion in the chlorophyllmolecule. The later effects of magnesium deficiencyon plants are a significant reduction ingrowth and reproductive viability.[3]

Zinc (Zn) is one mineral or micronutrientthat plants need in very minute amounts.This metal is naturally found in soil andwater and is found throughout planttissues, including leaves or fruits thathumans and other animals consume.Problems arise when plants are bothdeprived of zinc molecules.
  24. 24. The Role of Zinc in Plant Health1. Zinc plays a central role in healthy plant metabolism and growth processes.2. Zinc is not needed in as large amounts as nitrogen, potassium or phosphorus. Molecules are absorbed by the roots and are transported in the vascular tissues in plants, which are called phloem and xylem, especially in conjunction with movement of nitrogen molecules.3. Zinc is needed for the creation of the plant growth hormone auxin and for creation of the green chlorophyll and cytochrome pigments.4. It also has a role in formation of enzymes and carbohydrates, regulation of starches and proper root development.5. Zinc also helps plants assimilate to cold temperatures across the growing season.

Narrower than normal leaves with wavy edges or abnormally expanding and puckered.3. Another cue is what is called "rosetting"-- space between new leaves is very small, and tiny leaves and shoots bunch up into a clustered tuft.
