Week 5 prompt Presentation Transcript

  • 1. Australia has international obligations to protect the human rights of all asylum seekers and refugees who arrive in Australia, regardless of how or where they arrive and whether they arrive with or without a visa. They will live a safer life. Australia can provide them with homes, food, and possible jobs.
  • 2. An asylum seeker is someone who has fled their own country due to fear of their own safety. What does refugee mean? A refugee is someone who is living out of their country, and is unable, and unwilling to return do to various different reasons.
  • 3. Discuss with the person next to you. Share responses with the class.       Possible reasons: race religion nationality membership of a particular social group or political opinion.
  • 4. Discuss with the person next to you. Share responses with the class. Possible reasons:   They need to apply for a refugee visa. Australia accepts a certain amount of refugees every year - once we over this quota further action needs to be taken.
  • 5. Discussion What are you feelings? What do you believe? Why do you believe this?
  • 6.    What could we do? Do you think Australia could protect all asylum seekers? How could we stop people looking for asylum? Discuss with you partner Share answers with the class
