Partner Beta FAQ

 1. 1. Office 365 Beta

Can I attach myself as Partner of Record to my customer’s Office 365 beta accounts?

Yes. When partner features are made available prior to the announcement of Office 365 general availability, they will include the ability to send beta and custom quotes (and trial after general availability) invitations to customers. Partners will automatically be attached as Partner of Record to customers who accept these invitations.

How long can I use the 25 seats of Office 365 Beta?

You may use your 25 seats until 30 days after Microsoft announces general availability of Office 365. Your Office 365 beta account will be seamlessly transitioned to a 30 day trial account, when Microsoft announces general availability of Office 365. You may use your 25 seats until the 30 day trial ends.

How will I be notified when my Beta is about to expire?

Your Office 365 beta account will be seamlessly transitioned to a 30 day trail account, when Microsoft announces general availability of Office 365. Microsoft will send e-mail to your Office 365 email address to let you know when your 30 day trial subscription is about to expire. The email is the same message your customers will receive, and will contain a link to purchase Office 365.
Office 365 Partner Internal Use Rights (IUR) benefit

How many seats are included with the Internal Use Rights (IUR) benefit? Which subscription plan is it?
 2. 2. Partner who sign up for the Microsoft Cloud Essentials Pack and meet the program requirements can take advantage of many benefits which include IUR for 250 seats of Office 365 Enterprise plan.
 3. 3. How does the Office 365 IUR benefit compare to the former BPOS IUR benefit?

Like the BPOS benefit, the Office 365 benefit includes up to 250 seats for a year at no charge. Like the BPOS IUR benefits, Office 365 includes access to Microsoft’s communication and collaboration capabilities. The main differences are:

Office 365 includes Lync, which replaces the Office Communications Online and Live Meeting components of BPOS
 4. 4. The Office 365 IUR benefit is for Plan E3, which includes the Office Professional Plus suite of desktop applications
 5. 5. Office 365 brings your IUR and partner features into a single portal – you only need to remember one login ID for everything—from trial invitations and purchase offers, to your team sites, to your inbox.
 6. 6. How do I get access to the Office Professional Plus desktop applications that are included with my Office 365 IUR benefit?

The Office Professional Plus suite can be downloaded through the Office 365 homepage after you sign up. Sign in to Office 365 at http://login.microsoftonline.com.

If I am the Microsoft Services Online Administrator for my company, how do I manage user permissions for my organization?

Sign in to Office 365 at http://login.microsoftonline.com and click on Admin at the top of the page. There you will find the controls for adding users. If you have questions or get lost, use the built-in search capability to get answers from the online help and community, like this one. Microsoft support is there for you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week if you need more help.

Can I get Office 365 Plan P1 as my IUR account?

No, there will be no IUR on Office 365 Plan P1.
I have an Office 365 beta or trial account. How do I turn it into an Internal Use Rights (IUR) account so that I do not have to purchase?
After Office 365 is commercially available, go to www.microsoftcloudpartner.com to find out how to turn your existing beta account into an IUR account.
Partner Purchases of Additional Office 365 Licences

If I have more than 250 users, can I purchase additional licenses on the same account as my Internal Use Rights (IUR) for Office 365?

Yes. Once you do, you can assign the purchased licenses to users. The users assigned one of the purchased licenses will have the same capabilities and domain name as the initial 250 users.

Is there a limit to how many licenses I can purchase and add to my IUR domain?

No.
BPOS to Office 365 transition

I use the BPOS Internal Use Rights (IUR) benefit within my company. Will I be able to use Office 365 partner features before my BPOS account is transitioned to Office 365?
 7. 7. Yes. Partners should sign up for beta now, as Partner features will be tied to your Office 365 account. Microsoft will send an email prior to the announcement of Office 365 general availability to all Microsoft Cloud Essential Pack partners, which any partner is already subscribed to if they are using BPOS IUR, which will provide instructions on how to turn on Office partner features in your Office 365 beta account so you can utilize them.
 8. 8. When will my Internal Use Rights (IUR) benefit be transitioned from BPOS to Office 365?

All BPOS customers, including partners taking advantage of their IUR benefit, will be transitioned at a time mutually agreed upon with Microsoft. Transitions will begin after Office 365 general availability is announced.

I have heard that as a partner I will need to manually migrate my data from BPOS to Office 365 as part of the transition. Will my customers have to manually migrate their data as part of their transition from BPOS to Office 365? Are partners a special case?
 9. 9. Customers will not need to manually migrate data as part of the transition from BPOS to Office 365. Microsoft will work with customers to determine a mutually agreeable transition schedule, and will handle data continuity in the background during the transition. Partners are a special case because they need to exist in both worlds – BPOS and Office 365 – at once. This period of overlap introduces special challenges.
 10. 10. When should I transition to Office 365? Now? After it is commercially available?
 11. 11. If you have not taken advantage of BPOS IUR, or did not depend on it for day-to-day use, you should discontinue your BPOS account and start fresh in the Office 365 beta account. If you do use BPOS IUR for your day-to-day e-mail and collaboration system, you should transition as soon as practical after the manual data migration guidance becomes available.
 12. 12. If I want to start fresh in Office 365, should I throw away my BPOS IUR account?
 13. 13. You should forego your BPOS IUR account and start fresh on Office 365 if you have not used your BPOS IUR account as your day-to-day “production” communications and collaboration solution. On the other hand, if you have been depending on BPOS IUR for your daily business needs, you should consider manually migrating your emails, users, and SharePoint sites to Office 365 once Microsoft publishes guidance to help you perform a manual self-transition. Microsoft will publish this guidance prior to the announcement of Office 365 general availability.
 14. 14. If I don’t want to wait for Microsoft to transition my IUR account from BPOS to Office 365, will there be tools available for self-transition?
 15. 15. Microsoft will publish guidance to help you perform a manual self-transition. Microsoft will publish this guidance prior to the announcement of Office 365 general availability.
 16. 16. Will Microsoft fund my self-transition of e-mail and SharePoint data?
 17. 17. At present time, there is no funding available for self-transition.
 18. 18. My BPOS IUR is scheduled to expire soon. Will the expiration date be the same after I sign up for Office 365 IUR?
 19. 19. The BPOS IUR expiration date does not impact your Office 365 IUR. All partners that have a BPOS IUR accounts, are Microsoft Cloud Essential Pack partners, and as such will receive the benefit of 12 months of Office 365 IUR.
 20. 20. Will I have to transition from BPOS IUR to Office 365 in order to take advantage of Office 365 partner features such as trial invitations and purchase offers, or delegated administration?
 21. 21. The use of partner features for Office 365 are entirely separate from anything related to BPOS, The transition of BPOS IUR has no impact on your ability to use Office 365 features.
 22. 22. Will my BPOS customers still be attached to me in Office 365?

Yes. Partner of Record relationships will be maintained when customers are transitioned from BPOS to Office 365.

I’m interested in migrating my data manually from BPOS IUR to Office 365. What are the steps I need to take to do that successfully?

How much downtime will I have while migrating myself from BPOS to Office 365?
Do I need to open support tickets to help with the transition?
How will I transfer my domain name from BPOS to Office 365?
How can I migrate e-mail without impacting my users?
Microsoft will publish partner transition guidance, covering these questions, prior to the announcement of Office 365 general availability.

What if I want to stay on BPOS IUR, how long can I keep it?

Like customers, you will have the option to delay your transition from BPOS to Office 365 for up to 12 months after transitions begin. However, you should look to transition as quickly as possible so you can best represent the Office 365 experience to your customers.

I have users in my company who use Blackberry devices, and we are using the Hosted Blackberry Service with our BPOS IUR account. Can I get the Hosted Blackberry Service on Office 365 IUR?
 23. 23. Blackberry maker Research in Motion (RIM) will introduce a new BlackBerry cloud-based service later this calendar year. The service will be hosted, licensed and supported by RIM who has committed to offer their new BlackBerry cloud based service for Exchange Online starting at $0 per user per month.

Office 365 Partner Features

I have my beta account for Office 365. When will the partner features be enabled, and how do I turn them on?
 24. 24. Prior to announcement of Office 365 general availability, Microsoft will send an e-mail to Cloud Essentials and Cloud Accelerate partners with information on how to turn on partner features.
 25. 25. Can I send trial invitations and purchase offers to customers if I don’t have an Office 365 account?

No. In order to send trial invitations and purchase offers to customers, you need to use the partner features of Office 365 – which are only available to Partners who sign up for and meet the program requirements for the Microsoft Cloud Essentials Pack. Prior to general availability, all Microsoft Clouds Essentials Pack partners will receive an email with information on how to turn on partner features within their Office 365 account, including: beta invitations, trial invitations (after general availability announcement), and purchase offers. However, once Office 365 is commercially available, customers will be able to select you as their Partner of Record whether you have an Office 365 account or not.

What are the requirements for enabling the Office 365 partner features? I heard you have to be Cloud Accelerate; will I not be able to utilize partner features if I am not Cloud Accelerate?
 26. 26. You need to sign up for and meet the program requirements for the Microsoft Cloud Essentials Pack. All Microsoft Clouds Essentials Pack partners will receive an email prior to Office 365 general availability with information on how to turn on partner features within their Office 365 account, including: beta invitations, trial invitations (after general availability announcement), and purchase offers. When these partner features are turned on, they will include the ability to send beta (& trial after general availability) invitations to customers. Partners will automatically be attached as Partner of Record to customers who accept the invitations. Microsoft Cloud Accelerate partners get access to an additional partner feature: delegated administration. This enables those partners to perform administrative tasks on behalf of their customers.
 27. 27. If I currently have access to the delegated administration in BPOS, is that affected by the Office 365 beta and my IUR transition?
 28. 28. You will continue to have access to the BPOS delegated administration feature, and can continue to use it to manage your customers who are on BPOS. Access to and usage of the delegated administration feature for BPOS is completely separate from anything related to Office 365, and is not impacted by your Office 365 account of your IUR transition.
 29. 29. If you want to use delegated administration to manage your new customers on Office 365, you will first need to set up an Office 365 account as partner features for Office 365 are now tied to your Office 365 account. Microsoft will send all Microsoft Cloud Accelerate partners an email prior to Office 365 general availability with information on how to turn on partner features, including Office 365 delegated administration, within their Office 365 account to manage your customers who are on Office 365.
 30. 30. How do I get the delegated administration feature of Office 365?
 31. 31. Delegated Administration is available exclusively to Microsoft Cloud Accelerate Partners. If you have signed up for and meet the program requirements to achieved Microsoft Cloud Accelerate partner status, you will first need to set up an Office 365 account as partner features for Office 365 are now tied to your Office 365 account. Microsoft will send all Microsoft Cloud Accelerate partners an email prior to Office 365 general availability with information on how to turn on partner features, including Office 365 delegated administration, within their Office 365 account to manage your customers who are on Office 365. Instructions to turn on the delegated administration feature in your Office 365 account will also be posted prior to announcement of office general availability at www.microsoftcloudpartner.com...
 32. 32. Is there training on the partner features for Office 365?
 33. 33. Trainings will be available in May thru a Partner Academy Live session and through www.QuickStartOnlineServices.com
 34. 34. I am a Cloud Accelerate partner. Once I sign up for Office 365 and turn on the partner features, can I use Office 365 delegated administration to manage my BPOS customers?
 35. 35. To manage BPOS customers with delegated administration, you will continue to use the same BPOS delegated administration portal you use today: the Microsoft Online Services Partner Administration Center. For any customers using Office 365, you will use the Office 365 portal to perform delegated administration.
 36. 36. What is delegated administration?

Delegated administration, a feature exclusively available to Cloud Accelerate partners, enables you to perform administrative tasks for your customers who have authorized you as a delegated administrator. To perform administrative tasks for those customers who have authorized delegated administration, you simply sign in once to the Microsoft Online Portal, using your Office 365 ID. From there, you can find and select a specific customer who has authorized you as a delegated administrator and then navigate into the customers’ admin control panels to perform administrative tasks on your customer’s behalf.

Is delegated administration in Office 365 different from the delegated administration feature in BPOS?

The capabilities are mostly the same. One big difference is that in Office 365, partner features such as delegated administration and the ability to send trial invitations and purchase offers are all tied to your Office Internal Use rights (IUR) account. In BPOS each of the partner features and your IUR account were separate. The benefit is that in Office 365 you do not need to keep track of a separate login ID for delegated administration—you’ll just use the same username and password to access all partner features, and the rest of your Office 365 account functionality.

What are the trial invitation and purchase offer features? Are they different from the Purchase on Behalf capability that existed for BPOS?

Trial invitations and purchase offers help you ensure you are associated with your customers as Partner of Record. Found in the Microsoft Online Portal, these features enable you to create a link (URL) to be sent to customers. When the customer clicks the link, he or she will be encouraged to sign up for a trial or purchase. Once the sign up is complete, you are automatically associated to that customer as Partner of Record, ensuring that you get paid the Advisor fees you are due. =
The capabilities are mostly the same between BPOS “Purchase on behalf” and Office 365 functionality. Will they stop working, or will they convert to Office 365 quotes (purchase offers)?

After Office 365 is commercially available, customers who respond to BPOS offers will receive a message that the offer is no longer available. To manage BPOS customers, Partners must continue to use the BPOS delegated administration console for any BPOS customers. The Office 365 delegated administration feature is only available to perform administrative tasks for those Office 365 customers who have authorized delegated administration. 39. 39. Yes, you can be selected as Partner of Record even if you do not have an Office 365 account. However, if you want to send customers trial invitations or purchase offers, you will need to have an Office 365 account.
 40. 40. When Office 365 general availability is announced, what happens to all the BPOS quotes for purchase and trial that I sent to customers or put in my marketing materials?
 41. 41. Prior to or at the announcement of Office 365 general availability, BPOS trials will no longer be offered. When that occurs, customers following a BPOS trial quote link will receive a message stating that BPOS trial is offering is no longer valid.
