Dazed and confused toc analysis

  1. 1. DAZED+CONFUSED MAGAZINE TABLE OFCONTENTS ANALYSIS.
  2. 2. LANGUAGE AND FONT. The font for the magazine logo is the same as they use on the masthead on their covers. This is keeping the page exclusive to the magazine. It is bold and eye-catching and works well with the more subtle, lighter font used on the page. The referenceto the festival ‘Istancool’ is something that only a certain group ofpeople will be aware of and this makes the magazine instantly relating tocertain people who are aware of the festival which is a ‘prestigious art, design, fashion, film, music, literature and architecture festival’. Thiswill instantly attract an arty and fashionable audience who areinterested in creative culture. The San Serif font used is evenly and nicely spaced out so that it isclear to read and contrasts to the more condensed text on the page. It isalso bigger which indicates that they are the titles and is clear andquick for the reader top identify and read.Again, they don’t include any titles of articles and focus on thephotographer’s name which keeps it exclusive and recognisable to certainpeople and unrecognisable to some readers.Listing artists and musicians featured gives the reader a quick overviewof what is in the music section quickly which will also help to showpotential readers efficiently what is in the magazine which will makethem want to buy it.
  3. 3. IMAGERY.The image is very young and fun, featuring ayoung model dressed in vibrant, brightcoloured clothing. The image has direct eyecontact with the reader which directlyaddresses the audience directly. The hairstyling is particularly unique and out therewhich will attract an audience open to newstyles and experimental styles. Because themodels hands are pressed together, it makesthe image look very symmetrical which I reallylike as it gives the page a layout and ashape. There is only one image on this TOCwhich is unconventional for a TOC whichusually contain multiple images.
  4. 4. LAYOUT/DESIGN. I really like the unconventional and simplistic layout and design of this TOC. The way the text is placed is really effective and unique and is a good way for readers to easily find what they are looking for. I love the cut out effect of filling the text boxes white so this extends out against the colourful background.I like the use of whitespace as it makes the pagelook simplistic and on trenddesign-wise. It also makesthe text easier to read andlink to the page numbers. Iwant to include white spacesimilarly in my own TOC tocreate a minimalistic feelto the page. I like the use of the of the line above to keep the running linear layout of the page.
  5. 5. COLOUR.This particular table ofcontents is extremelycolourful, using abackground of a mixture ofcolours to create a reallyyouthful and fun contentspage which is appealing tothe eye and makes up forthe page not havingmultiple images.
