Sicilian Pizza

  2. 2. Preparation<br />Ask an adult to help you gather and measure the ingredients and to help you with the hot oven<br />
  3. 3. You will need<br />An Apron<br />Measuring cup and spoons<br />Rectangular baking pan<br />
  4. 4. Ingredients<br />1 ½ cups warm water<br />4 cups all purpose flour<br />1 tablespoon of salt<br />4 tablespoons of olive oil<br />2 packages of active dry yeast<br />Tomato sauce<br />Cheese – provolone or mozzarella<br />Your favorite toppings<br />Try sardines if you want a traditional Sicilian taste<br />For the Dough<br />Toppings<br />
  5. 5. Make the Dough you can do this ahead of timeRecipe from www.recipepizza.com<br />In one bowl covered with plastic wrap combine yeast, 1/2 cup flour, and water. Allow to rise for 15 minutes. Stir to deflate.<br />In another bowl add 2 cups of remaining flour with salt, 1 cup cool tap water, and oil. Mix thoroughly with a wooden spoon.<br />Add yeast mixture.<br />Mix in remaining flour.<br />Knead 15 minutes on a floured surface until smooth.<br />Place dough in bowl dusted with flour and cover with plastic wrap. Let rise until doubled size (1 to 2 hours).<br />Punch dough down and put in ziploc bag in the refrigerator until ready to use.<br />

Create Your Pizza<br />Preheat oven to 500F.<br />Remove dough from refrigerator when ready to shape into crust.<br />Punch down dough and roll out on a lightly floured surface.<br />Lightly oil (olive) a rectangular (17 1/2" X 11 1/2" X 3/4”) pan. Place dough in pan and push to stretch evenly leaving a lip up against sides of pan. Let rest for 10−15 minutes.<br />Cover the dough with sauce, cheese, and toppings<br />Now you are ready to bake it!<br />
  7. 7. Time to Cook it and Eat It<br />Reduce oven temperature to 450 degrees<br />Bake for 25 minutes, or until crust is golden brown.<br />Remove it from the oven carefully, let it cool, and Enjoy!<br />
  8. 8. Clean Up<br />Remember to help clean up and wash the dirty dishes, Its all part of cooking!<br />
