Convergence and Synergy Presentation Transcript

  • 1. Convergence and Synergy Attack the Block and Super 8
  • 2. Attack the Block
  • 3. Convergence in Attack The Block The convergence is the coming together of two or more things. • The film industry and CGI (Computer Generated Images), came together to produce the special effects we saw on screen e.g. the aliens and the explosions… etc.)
  • 4. Synergy in Attack The Block Synergy is the process by which media institutions use a range of platforms to promote, sell and distribute their products. The synergy depends on the budget they have, therefore Attack the Block being an independent film they lack the funding's that other feature films have, having said that the synergies for this film will be limited. • The TV advertisement for Attack the Block promoted the movie being screened on TV and the releasing of the DVD. • The trailers on the internet gave a bigger platform for Attack the Block to advertise the upcoming film. Thanks to YouTube. • Social media was a huge help. Attack the Block being an independent British film which was filmed in South London grabbed the younger audiences’ attention, therefore resulting them to advertise it on Twitter, Facebook and other social networking sites. This is called Word-of-Mouth.
  • 5. Super
  • 6. Convergence in Super 8 • The film industry and CGI (Computer Generated Images), came together to produce the special effects we saw on screen e.g. the aliens and the explosions… etc.) • They combined the actors and the filming, meaning the actors filmed some scenes for the film.
  • 7. Synergy in Super 8 The film itself had all the promotion it needed with the director being J. J. Abrams and the producer being Steven Speilberg, whom have created such successful movies along the years that they’ve created a fan base big enough to not need any other synergies. • Apple was a platform for Super 8, they linked forces and showed trailers on the iTunes Apple Store. • Blu-Ray and DVD releases.
  • 8. Comparison • Taking into account that Super 8 is a huge Hollywood feature film and Attack the Block is a British not-so-popular film, whom both have different budgets. • Both films had distribution, but because of the budgets both films didn’t have the same distributions. • Both films used an immense amount of CGI’s, not of the same standards however. Super 8’s aliens used CGI all over whereas Attack the Block used dummies for the model.
  • 9. The Benefits of Convergence in Film. • Convergence in technology has given not only feature films but independent films a wider platform to distribute their films to the public, whether or not having the money to (as money can be an obstacle for advertisement values.)
  • 10. The Benefits of Synergy in Film. • Having two institutes synergizing for the production of a film or advertisement, is a bonus for the distribution of the film all together, because then they have two medians reaching out to the audience.
