  1. 1. DENGUE FEVER CASES IN CALASIAO January to July 25, 2008

UPDATE <ul><li>A total of 51 cases of Dengue Fever, both suspects </li></ul><ul><li>and confirmed, was reported in Calasiao, Pangasinan </li></ul><ul><li>from January to July 25 this year. </li></ul><ul><li>There were no cases reported during the months of </li></ul><ul><li>February, March and April. </li></ul><ul><li>A total of 10 cases were reported for January. </li></ul><ul><li>There was one death reported in the month of July </li></ul><ul><li>for case fatality rate of 1.96%. </li></ul>

INFORMATION <ul><li>Of the 51 Dengue Fever cases reported up to the 25th day </li></ul><ul><li>of July this year, twenty-nine (29) are males and twenty-two (22) are females with the youngest at 3 years old and the oldest at 52. </li></ul><ul><li>Eighteen (18) out of the total twenty-four (24) barangays </li></ul><ul><li>of Calasiao have reported cases. Significant increase for the past week were observed in Barangays Malabago (which continues to have the most number at 9 cases), Buenlag, Lasip (where the lone death due to </li></ul><ul><li>Dengue Fever came from), Lumbang, Mancup, Nagsaing, </li></ul><ul><li>Longos and Macabito (the last two with no previous cases reported), </li></ul>

  5. 7. <ul><li>The Dengue Fever cases reported for this year 2008 is several time higher than that of last year covering the same period, from January to July 25. There were only 3 cases reported last year compared to the 51 for this year and this signifies a sharp increase necessitating continuous proper interventions in the control and preventive activities against Dengue Fever. </li></ul>
  6. 9. <ul><li>Twenty two (22) reported Dengue Fever suspect cases are still under investigation and if all will be found to be Dengue Fever cases, the total may rise to seventy three (73) cases, comparable to the 2005 statistics but the total number of seventy four (74) then was for the whole year of 2005 while the 73 for this year is up to this month of July only. Hopefully, through proper interventions, the situation will get better and not reach the level of 2006. </li></ul>

RESPONSE ACTIVITIES <ul><li>PROMOTION AND INFORMATION /EDUCATION COMMUNICATION CAMPAIGN </li></ul>June 23, 2008 MDCC convened by OIC Mayor Ferdinand Galang, to assessed the damage brought about by Typhoon Frank. It also served evaluate and discuss the measures to be undertaken to address the present Dengue Fever problem

RESPONSE ACTIVITIES <ul><li>PROMOTION AND INFORMATION /EDUCATION COMMUNICATION CAMPAIGN </li></ul>June 23, 2008 After the MDCC meeting, OIC Mayor Ferdinand Galang, and the MHO met with the Barangay Captains to ask for their support on the activities that were planned to combat Dengue Fever in the town of Calasiao.

RESPONSE ACTIVITIES <ul><li>PROMOTION AND INFORMATION /EDUCATION COMMUNICATION CAMPAIGN </li></ul>July 4, 2008 The MHO conducted a lecture about Dengue Fever for the DepEd principals and teachers of both Districts I and II. This aims to give the teachers the necessary information for them to impart to their students as part of the community effort to control Dengue Fever in Calasiao.
  12. 15. RESPONSE ACTIVITIES <ul><li>PROMOTION AND INFORMATION /EDUCATION COMMUNICATION CAMPAIGN </li></ul>May 16, 2008. The BHWs of Calasiao, being at the forefront of health service delivery, were given a lecture on Dengue Fever as well as given information materials with emphasis on the important role of early detection of suspect Dengue Fever cases for referral and cleanliness in the fight against Dengue.

Shown here are health personnel of the MHO and CHD-I doing health education and fogging operation in Barangay Talibaew where early reported cases came from.

RESPONSE ACTIVITIES <ul><li>TECHNICAL AND LOGISTIC ASSISTANCE </li></ul>July 6, 2008 As a result of the MDCC meeting last June 23, OIC Mayor Galang led the municipal employees on a Sunday morning in conducting a cleanliness campaign dubbed” Kalinisan Para Sa Kalusugan” to increase public awareness on the importance of proper environment sanitation in the fight against Dengue Fever. .

RESPONSE ACTIVITIES <ul><li>MONITORING AND EVALUATION </li></ul>July 15, 2008 The MHO, with LIGA Pres., AJ Bauzon, gave an update on the Dengue Fever situation in Calasiao during the monthly meeting of the Liga ng mga Barangay. The regular updating of the Dengue fever situation in Calasiao serves as the evaluation of the anti-Dengue Fever activities.
