PREPARE <ul><li>Winging it is not acceptable!  </li></ul><ul><li>Begin with writing an outline of the topic—the beginning, the middle, the end of what you will say in bulleted terms </li></ul><ul><li>Without preparation, you do not know when you are finished or where you have been, and neither will the audience. </li></ul><ul><li>Never assume that your audience is as knowledgeable as you are about your topic. </li></ul>
  3. 3. 2. PRACTICE….PRACTICE….PRACTICE <ul><li>Talk to yourself out loud from the outline. (At least 3 times.) </li></ul><ul><li>Get comfortable with the content. Know the slides in your PowerPoint. (Remember that less is more. Have a copy of them in handout form.) </li></ul><ul><li>Practice with all of the equipment you will be using. </li></ul><ul><li>Time your presentation. </li></ul>

  6. 6. “ You never get a second chance to make a first impression.” <ul><li>Your appearance is important! </li></ul><ul><li>(Dress professionally, not casually.) </li></ul><ul><li>Warm up your brain! Run some multiplication tables (5s, 9s, 8s); name musical bands from A to Z; etc. </li></ul><ul><li>Warm up your voice! Sing, count, anything to open your mouth and emit sound without straining your voice. Laugh out loud. </li></ul>
  7. 7. Using Audio-Visual Equipment <ul><li>Arrive early. </li></ul><ul><li>Make sure all the equipment you need is in the room. </li></ul><ul><li>You should have practiced with the equipment beforehand. </li></ul>
  8. 8. <ul><li>Introduce yourself. </li></ul><ul><li>Thank your audience for their attendance. </li></ul><ul><li>Have a good opening, something to make them smile. Set the mood. </li></ul><ul><li>Make eye contact with your audience. </li></ul>Beginning your presentation….
