2. When the American
Temperament
Testing Society, Inc.
tested the American
Pit Bull Terrier for
stability, aggression
and friendliness,
they received a
passing grade of
86.8 percent,
beating golden
retrievers, collies,
and beagles.
Out of the 122
breeds tested,
pitbulls came in 4th!
3. Pit bulls are known
for their loyalty and
companionship.
Interestingly, it’s
this quality of
loyalty which has
been their downfall
in the public eye.
When bad owners
treat them horrible
and train them to
fight, they become
aggressive.
By nature though,
they are very
friendly and
af fectionate.
4. Pit bulls have been
subject to
discrimination and
breed-specific
legislation. Such
laws don’t
distinguish exactly
what breed they are
targeting, so the
American
Staf fordshire Terrier,
American Pit Bull
Terrier, Staf fordshire
Bull Terrier are all
targeted.
This legislation is
based solely on
unsupported
opinion. The
National Canine
Research Council
has concluded there
is no scientific
evidence that one
dog breed is more
likely than another
to harm a human.
5. Pit bulls were used
as imagery for the
U.S. Military on war
posters, featured as
celebrated
companions with
stars like Humphrey
Bogart and Lauren
Bacall. Pit bulls
have been used to
contribute to and
give back to society
throughout law
enforcement and for
hospital visits,
therapy for autistic
children, and search
and rescue missions.
