Jeremiah, Thank you for sharing your fantastic presentation. You clearly articulate and substantiate the approach that I am trying to take in my new role as Community Manager for the Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills in the UK. I would be happy to share my experiences as my tenure rolls on. Michelle Lyons http://twitter.com/mlyons

Jeremiah, I want to thank you for sharing this vital information with those of us that are focusing on building effective communities. As a vendor in the white-label social network space we are constantly working to better understand the overall dynamics that play into a successful deployment. This is such a new field that having timely access to this type of information is critical for both us and our customers, as there are so many factors at play here. I agree with your comment recently and Charlene Li's at Graphing Social Patterns, that Technology is not the answer. I see in these slides that 'Selecting a Vendor' is way down the list of things to think about when considering a Community. As a technology provider it is a key take-away from this slideset. At introNetworks we are constantly seeking to improve our understanding of all aspects of the social networking industry - but mostly from the point of view of how we can assist our customers in achieving their business objectives easily and effectively. Again, thanks for sharing this valuable insight. Mark Sylvester CEO, introNetworks

initial slides are very basic if you are already familiar with facebook - good slides towards the end discussing points to consider in designing your strategy.

matching personal profiles to activities/tastes of the memebers can yiield useful demogarphic data for media planners and advertisers. Yes it is proliferating like the dot coms of late 90s. VCs must watch out. Social nOt working is not just smart word play and hence a concern for employers and managers!
