Our current plans for distribution
MEDIN Standard means we meet SSDI/GEMINI standard
But GEMINI does not mean you meet MEDIN standard.
Future uses
The Catalogue service can be harvested by anyone. But specific groupings will probably be created for delivery partners
Where does it go from there?

Linkage of data sources with metadata
Direct links to data collections where available
Spatial catalogue
Internal harvesting of spatial/temporal records of sampling acitivty
Semantic web structure (tripple store -> RDF)
Ultimately – link to format refinements of metadata records
Higher level analysis on utilisation of metadata
Which records generate data requests?
Help prioritise publishing

Residing knowledge on these issues, and help through the process

Scale appropriately
Do you develop for a single project or as a common tool
Make sure there is a benefit – ideally on many levels
End users are (generally) not over-enthused by metadata.
But if it saves filling in 3 forms, then….maybe!
Reduced time spent on data requests = more time for analysis
Think broadly
Standards are important. But make sure there is room to accommodate different needs
