How Did It All Start? The Influences That Lead To American Government
The Ideologies
In 1797, a group of philosopher, the Ideologues, led by Antoine Louis Claude Destutt de Tracy, founded the Institut de France to develop and publicize the true knowledge about government nations
The Enlightenment philosophers sought to free humans from ignorance and superstition and intern promote progress, leading to a more perfect life on earth
Political Ideas
Divine Right Theory-
A widely accepted theory in much of the Western world from the fifteenth through eighteenth century. Idea that God created the state and that God had given those of royal birth a divine right to rule.
Evolutionary Theory-
The idea that the state developed naturally out of the early family . This primitive family had one person was the head of the family thusly becoming the government.
Force Theory-
States were born from force. One person or small group would claim control over an area and force all within it to submit to that person/group’s rules.
Social Contract Theory-
This theory most influenced the American Political System, using the ideas from philosophers like Hobbes, Locke, and Rousseau. This theory looked at the natural state of nature and the social benefits which would be created by a voluntary contract out of the need for political power and control of individual people in nature.
