  • Introduction to British Literature
    • Not only will we be reading British literature from several different periods, but we will also be looking closely at its historical context.
    This class will serve only as an introductory course.
    • You will select one of the following periods or ages of British Literature to research.
    • Your research project should be done in pairs.
    • The Anglo-Saxon Period (449-1066)

  • Additional Historical Periods: Contemporary Period of Literature (Post Modern Period) 1980-Present November 13 th (Javier Aguirre)
    • Once you have selected a period in British literature, you will begin your research.
    Start by reading the information given to you in class.
    • You must conduct additional research on your literary period. You should consult at least three other sources of information. Visit the Walt Whitman library or use the Internet. Please do not forget to cite all your sources of information.
    • For the age you have been assigned, you must find the following information and include it in your report and presentation:
    • Brief timeline of important events
    • Explain the period. What was life like during this period? What were the philosophical and social beliefs of people during this time?
    • Who were the most important authors of the time and name an important work from each one.
    • Locate information on one of the most prominent writers from the time period. Give a brief biographical sketch of the writer and share with your classmates a copy of one of his/her most well-known works.
    • When you have located the necessary information (and any other information you find interesting and appropriate) you must create a graphic organizer of the information to help you prepare for the final project.
    • When you have completed your graphic organizer, you will begin creating your final project.
    You may create posters to share your information with your classmates, or you may prepare a PowerPoint. You must hand in a written report which contains the results of your research.
    • You will be responsible for presenting your findings to the class.
    • The information you share with the class will serve as an introduction to the literary period.
    • You must write a short quiz and a while listening activity for your classmates about your presentation.
    • Your final project will be graded on the following:
    • Accuracy of information presented
    • Grammar and conventions
    • Quality of work/neatness/creativity/completeness
