Social Media Social Media Presentation Transcript

  • Social Media How Facebook, LinkedIn, and YouTube can promote the Chamber in the community. Presenter: Josh Jones
  • Why do we need this?
    • The way the world is communicating is changing on a day to day basis.
    • The Chamber needs to find more effective ways to stay in contact with businesses
      • Social Media is an effective new trend that businesses are turning to
    • The Chamber needs to keep up with these trends so we don’t fall behind
  • Just a Fad?
    • It took T.V. 13 years to reach 50 million people
    • The Internet achieved it in 4 years
      • Facebook achieved that milestone in 3 ½ years
        • With over 200 million users as of April, its influence is just the beginning
    • 80% of all companies of all sizes say they are now using social media
  • Social Media and Chambers
    • We’re not starting from scratch, it’s part of the transformation the Chamber is experiencing
    • We have years of experience supporting our community
      • Now let’s add tools to extend our reach, value, and abilities
  • Reaching Generation X and the Millennials
    • Generation X and the Millennials have a stereotype that the Chamber is for “old business people”
    • We’re not trying to leave the people who have been with us forever
      • We’re reaching out to them in new ways
      • Generation X accounts for 51 million people
      • Millennials account for 75 million people
  • Facebook
    • Mission: Giving people the power to share and make the world more open and connected
    • “ Millions of people use Facebook everyday to keep up with friends, upload an unlimited number of photos, share links and videos, and learn more about the people they meet”
  • Why Facebook
    • Quickly provide updates
    • Promote Chamber website
    • Get feedback from our members about conferences, BAH, etc.
    • Members are able to learn about upcoming programs and events
    • When we meet with prospective members, we can invite them to be a Facebook “friend”
  • Chambers and Facebook
    • Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce
    • Manatee Chamber of Commerce
    • Manhattan Chamber of Commerce
    • Pasadena Chamber of Commerce
    • Greater Cleveland Partnership
  • LinkedIn
    • “ Over 40 million professionals use LinkedIn to exchange information, ideas & opportunities”
      • Stay informed about your contacts and industry
      • Find the people & knowledge you need to achieve your goals
      • Control your professional identity online
  • Why LinkedIn
    • More than 1,250 Chamber groups
      • Aimed to connect its users’ expertise and interests with others
      • More serious than Facebook
    • ACCE has a group to help Chambers with questions they face
    • Add prospective business as a contact to increase exposure
  • Possibilities are endless
    • Other opportunities include:
      • Twitter
      • YouTube
      • Flickr
    • There are many options for what we can do with each social network
    • With each network it gives you the opportunity to connect with others
    • Great way to get the Chamber, Parkersburg, and the Mid-Ohio Valley out to the community, state, and world
