Why do we need this? <ul><li>The way the world is communicating is changing on a day to day basis. </li></ul><ul><li>The Chamber needs to find more effective ways to stay in contact with businesses </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Social Media is an effective new trend that businesses are turning to </li></ul></ul><ul><li>The Chamber needs to keep up with these trends so we don’t fall behind </li></ul>

Just a Fad? <ul><li>It took T.V. 13 years to reach 50 million people </li></ul><ul><li>The Internet achieved it in 4 years </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Facebook achieved that milestone in 3 ½ years </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>With over 200 million users as of April, its influence is just the beginning </li></ul></ul></ul><ul><li>80% of all companies of all sizes say they are now using social media </li></ul>

Social Media and Chambers <ul><li>We’re not starting from scratch, it’s part of the transformation the Chamber is experiencing </li></ul><ul><li>We have years of experience supporting our community </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Now let’s add tools to extend our reach, value, and abilities </li></ul></ul>

Reaching Generation X and the Millennials <ul><li>Generation X and the Millennials have a stereotype that the Chamber is for “old business people” </li></ul><ul><li>We’re not trying to leave the people who have been with us forever </li></ul><ul><ul><li>We’re reaching out to them in new ways </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Generation X accounts for 51 million people </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Millennials account for 75 million people </li></ul></ul>

Facebook <ul><li>Mission: Giving people the power to share and make the world more open and connected </li></ul><ul><li>“ Millions of people use Facebook everyday to keep up with friends, upload an unlimited number of photos, share links and videos, and learn more about the people they meet” </li></ul>

Why Facebook <ul><li>Quickly provide updates </li></ul><ul><li>Promote Chamber website </li></ul><ul><li>Get feedback from our members about conferences, BAH, etc. </li></ul><ul><li>Members are able to learn about upcoming programs and events </li></ul><ul><li>When we meet with prospective members, we can invite them to be a Facebook “friend” </li></ul>

Possibilities are endless <ul><li>Other opportunities include: </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Twitter </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>YouTube </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Flickr </li></ul></ul><ul><li>There are many options for what we can do with each social network </li></ul><ul><li>With each network it gives you the opportunity to connect with others </li></ul><ul><li>Great way to get the Chamber, Parkersburg, and the Mid-Ohio Valley out to the community, state, and world </li></ul>
