US statistics on sexting <ul><li>71 Percent of teen girls and 67% of teen guys who have sent or posted sexually suggestive content say they have sent or posted this content to a boyfriend or girlfriend. </li></ul><ul><li>51 Percent of teen girls say pressure from a guy is a reason girls send sexy messages or images; only 18 % of teen boys cited pressure from female counterparts as a reason. </li></ul><ul><li>66 Percent of teen girls and 60% of teen boys say they did so to be “fun or flirtatious”; their most common reason for sending sexy content. </li></ul>

Text Messaging <ul><li>94% of the students surveyed have a cell phone. </li></ul><ul><li>92% of the students surveyed have text messaging. </li></ul><ul><li>36% of students send 10-50 texts a day. </li></ul><ul><li>30% of students send 50-100 texts a day. </li></ul><ul><li>26% of students send 100 or more texts a day. </li></ul><ul><li>8% of students do not send text messages. </li></ul>

Picture Messaging <ul><li>85% of students surveyed said that they have picture messaging. </li></ul><ul><li>84% of the students send 1-5 pictures a day. </li></ul><ul><li>15% of students don’t send pictures at all. </li></ul><ul><li>2% of students sent 5-10 picture messages a day. </li></ul><ul><li>Only 15% of students surveyed said that they have sent a picture they regret. </li></ul><ul><li>66% of students said they have received a picture that could be viewed as inappropriate. </li></ul><ul><li>35% said that they passed that picture along to other people. </li></ul>

Rumor in Texts <ul><li>16% of students said that they have used texting to maliciously spread a rumor about someone else. </li></ul><ul><li>22% said that they have had a rumor spread about them via text </li></ul><ul><li>73% said that they have received a text containing a rumor about someone else. </li></ul><ul><li>Only 25% have passed on a rumor they received about someone. </li></ul>
