  5. 6. <ul><li>Team Design - 2 teams of 15 students </li></ul><ul><li>Varsity Team </li></ul><ul><li>- Earns points for each event entered </li></ul><ul><li>Each team member to have at least three events to prepare for </li></ul><ul><li>Two students may have four events </li></ul><ul><li>May earn medals for 1 st , 2 nd , & 3 rd place & ribbons to 6 th place </li></ul><ul><li>JV Team </li></ul><ul><li>Obtains valuable experience in preparation for the varsity team </li></ul><ul><li>May earn ribbons out to 5 th or 6 th place </li></ul>

Time commitment & dates <ul><li>Practice/Study sessions days and times will vary depending on coach & students </li></ul><ul><li>Students should be spending at least 2 - 4 hours a week minimum on events </li></ul><ul><li>Possible Saturday study sessions </li></ul><ul><li>Dates that student must be available: </li></ul><ul><li>February 5 th , March 19 th , & May 18 th - 21 st (pending win at State) </li></ul>

It is a good activity for your child & you. <ul><li>Provides learning beyond the classroom </li></ul><ul><li>Excellent opportunity to spend time with your son/daughter </li></ul><ul><li>Nationally recognized competition looks good on college resume </li></ul><ul><li>Develops team working skills </li></ul>
  8. 9. So Who are Some Types of People Who Serve as Coaches? - Parents - Community volunteers - College students who were in Science Olympiad - Teachers from all disciplines, not just science, math or technology - Retirees - Anyone who wants to take the time to help
