Strategy: Wanted to hold the capital but fled
the next day to Boonville. Set up Units in
Boonville and Tipton. Planned on
withdrawing if Lyon approached.

Union access and control of the Missouri
River. This was crucial because it denied
the Confederate states more supplies from
