Fly 2 International flight to Antananarivo (‘Tana’).
Orientation phase in the capital Tana. The group will need to
take it reasonably easy after a long flight. You will need to

exchange money, drop off the embassy pack and prepare
for the next phase of your expedition.
Travel to Miandrivazo via Antsirabe. Meet your River Trip

providers.
Drift down the Tsiribihina River in a traditional wooden
pirogue on your multi day river trip from Miandrivazo to Belo-
sur-Tsiribihina. Floating down the 146 km stretch of the river
Tsiribihina will give you the chance to experience Madagascar from a

River Trip different perspective, visiting remote areas only accessible
by boat. Enjoy the lovely scenery, watch the lemurs, have
lunch under a giant tree, and camp on the sandbanks on
each of the nights.
Travel from Belo-sur-Tsiribihina to Morondava via the
Reserve Forestiere de Kirindy, a reserve supporting many
lemur, bird and reptile species, as well as the fosa –
Kirindy
Madagascar’s largest predator, and the giant jumping rat.

Make sure you visit the magnificent Avenue du Baobab,
Baobabs
where giant trees, thousands of years old, stand in an almost
straight line along a path that is lovely to walk down at
sunrise or sunset.
Morondava is a relaxed seaside town with some nice

beaches.
Travel 2 Travel to Antsirabe via Miandrivazo. Arrive in Ansirabe and
enjoy this bustling city full of pousse-pousse (rickshaws).
Wander around town and take time to visit some of the many
art and craft workshops in this colourful and elegant place,
before travelling further south.

Get involved with a Community Project in Central

Madagascar.
Travel 1 Travel back to Fianarantsoa.
All aboard the FCE, Madagascar’s only functioning
passenger train service! Travel with a noisy but friendly

1 bunch of locals from Fianarantsoa to Manakara past

plantations, hills and waterfalls, leaning out of the windows
at each station to buy food from the haggling vendors.
Manakara is a quiet town with an end-of-the-world feel.
Organise a bicycle trip or an excursion along the canal, or
R&R 2 just enjoy the long, pine-fringed beaches. However, please
note that it is not possible to swim here due to strong
currents and sharks.
Travel 1 Travel to Ranomafana National Park for some trekking.
Ranomafana is a beautiful misty and magical cloud forest
Trek 2 with spectacular scenery and lovely forest walks, as well as
lots of lemurs, birds, reptiles and butterflies.
Travel 2 Travel back to Tana and prepare for your journey home.
Fly 2 Depart Tana and arrive back in the UK.

A member of the Outlook team will be travelling to Madagascar in December 2008 to finalise
itineraries.
