The Cooper’s Dance Beginning shortly after Munich's plague in the 15th century, the coopers (a person who makes a living building beer barrels or kegs) originally began performing the dance in an attempt to lift the spirits of the frightened people by tempting them out of their homes once the plague was over. This dance is still performed by coopers only and is characterized by the stomping of the feet and slapping knees, thighs and boots to the rhythm of the music.
