What is Leukemia
Leukemia (the term leukemia means white blood cells) is a type of
blood cancer in which begins in the bone marrow.
The bone marrow, the soft tissue in the center of a bone, is
where blood cells are produced.
Someone who leukemia has an abnormal (out of control)
production of blood cells.
Unlike normal blood cells that die and are replaced by other
blood cells, abnormal blood cells keep on dividing and taking
up more and more space.
Due to dividing blood cells, there is less space for normal cells
and the person gets sick.
