  • 1. Cancer: Breast cancer and Leukemia By: Maria Jimenez & Jennifer Avila

What is Breast Cancer?  Breast cancer is a cancer that begins within the tissue of the breast.  There are two types of cancer:  Ductal  Lobular  Most breast cancers begin within cells that line the ducts (Ductal)  While some start within cells lining the lobules (Lobular)  http://www.cancer.org/cancer/breastcancer/detailedguide/breast-cancer-what-isbreast-cancer

What is Leukemia  Leukemia (the term leukemia means white blood cells) is a type of blood cancer in which begins in the bone marrow.  The bone marrow, the soft tissue in the center of a bone, is where blood cells are produced.  Someone who leukemia has an abnormal (out of control) production of blood cells.  Unlike normal blood cells that die and are replaced by other blood cells, abnormal blood cells keep on dividing and taking up more and more space.  Due to dividing blood cells, there is less space for normal cells and the person gets sick.

  • 6. Number of deaths with breast cancer per year • What researchers had hypothesized that about 232,340 women get diagnosed with and 39,620 women will die of breast cancer in 2013.
  • 7. Number of deaths with Leukemia per year • The estimate of scientist had predicted is that 27,880 men and 20,730 women will be diagnosed with leukemia and 23,720 men and women will die of leukemia.
