Myths about taj mahal

  1. 1. Myths about Taj Mahal All about Taj Mahal: http://www.tajmahaltours-india.com Black Taj Mahal According to black Taj Mahal myth, Shah decided to erect another mausoleum on the opposite side of river Yamuna exactly identical to the original one, this was to act as his burial place and connect both the monuments with a fairy tale bridge and the monument was to be called Black Taj as it was supposed to be build with black marble. But as the Black Taj Mahal myth is concerned it could never been built because of the war of succession with his son Aurangzeb and Shah Jahan’s Black Taj dream was only left as a dream and could never happened. Mutilation myth of Taj Mahal Another horrifying story related to the monument was the Mutilation myth of Taj Mahal which states that Shah Jahan was so astonished to see the Taj Mahal, Agra that he ordered to chop off the hands of the craftsmen and artists so that they would never be able to build or see anything more beautiful and splendid like the Taj Mahal. But as the story has no strong evidences the event is only a myth. Sinking Taj Mahal Myth The story of sinking Taj Mahal Myth raises above all the myths related to the Taj Mahal, Agra. Though taking so many precautions and working out minuets details in its construction, the Taj Mahal developed cracks barely after the 4 years of its construction. However, repair measures were undertaken but the nature of the cracks and leakages could not be exposed. Again in 1810, cracks were again exposed and this time even more serious than the last one. As a result an Advisory Committee was appointed for the renovation and it came to the light that the plinth on towards the northern side or riverside is lower than on the south by 3.5 cms. This discovery showed that the building was inclined towards the riverside. The sinking Taj Mahal myth states that the not just the part but the whole of the Taj Mahal could be actually be sinking towards the north side or the river side. Taj Mahal Hindu temple myth As per the Taj Mahal Hindu temple myth it is believed that the monument we now call Taj Mahal was actually a Shiva Temple dedicated to the Lord Shiva known by the name ‘Tejo Mahalaya’. Professor P.N. Oak, author of "Taj Mahal”- The True Story is a staunch believer of the Taj Mahal Hindu temple myth. According to his theories he sates that The Taj Mahal at Agra is not an Islamic Mausoleum but and ancient Hindu Temple, therefore the Taj Mahal at Agra should be viewed as a Temple and not as a tomb. He even asked the court to tier down the bricks and the cenotaphs to prove his claim. However, the court rejected the case and due to lack of strong evidences the Taj Mahal Hindu temple myth is only a fiction rather than a history.
