1. Office Administration Executive Includes Realistic Field
Preparation
One of the most beneficial aspects of attending a post-secondary program at college level is the
guarantee that before you graduate, you will have acquired a range of practical practice. At
Centennial College this is facilitated through both on and off campus opportunities. In their
classrooms, students from all programs enjoy simulated practice, whether through role-playing,
projects or lab work. Meanwhile, outside of the classroom, students partake in field placements or
co-op experiences that give them an advantage by enhancing their resume, expanding their
professional network and allowing them to see how their future role functions in the real world.
Centennial College’s Office Administration – Executive program is an offering that includes a
field placement component. During the final semester, students spend two days a week working in
a business setting related to their area of specialization — in this case at the executive level.
However, before students head into the workplace, they must become familiar with the types of
tasks that will be required of them. The program readies students through a series of courses that
provide the knowledge to handle the multiple functions performed by administrative assistants
who work with upper-level management. Among specific office and business topics are: relevant
computer software, Internet research, presentation preparation, taking minutes of meetings,
composing business correspondence and arranging national and international conferences as well
as document production, note-taking and related computer activities; and client service,
communication, time management and supervisory skills. To ensure that students are aware of
what to expect from the field, faculty members offer up-to-date information on current trends and
requirements.
As previously mentioned, all Centennial College programs contain a practical element in the
classroom. In this program that is achieved through training that includes automated office
systems such as word processing, spreadsheet, and database and presentation software.
As graduates of one of the most respected office administration schools in Toronto students
can apply for positions that include: executive or senior secretaries, administrative assistants and
administrative support officers. No matter graduates’ titles, this job entails common tasks such as:
maintaining data management systems for electronic and paper records; handling the creation of
financial records using appropriate software; using interpersonal skills to assist individuals and
teams and ensure effective customer service; organizing meetings, conferences, special events
and travel for their superiors; taking minutes of meetings; and handling banking and payroll by
using computerized accounting through software.
Should students wish to continue their educations once they receive their Ontario College Diploma,
they may do so through educational partnerships that Centennial College has established with
select universities, institutes and professional associations. These partnerships allow students to
use Centennial College credits towards further studies.
