    • LinkedIn is a business-oriented networking site that allows registered users to maintain connections of people they know and trust in business (i.e. networks).
    • Users can invite anyone (whether a site user or not) to become a connection.
    • Your network on LinkedIn consists of:
    • 1 st degree: Your direct connections
    • 2 nd degree: The connections of each of your direct connections
    • 3 rd degree: The connections of your 2 nd degree connections (3 rd degree connections).
    • Your network can be used to:
    • Gain introductions to others through mutual, trusted connections.
    • Find jobs, people and business opportunities recommended by someone in your network.
    • Be visible to employers who list jobs and search for potential candidates.
    • Review the profile of hiring managers and discover which of their existing contacts can introduce them.

    • Huge global reach : 70+ million users, 95% of whom have a college degree, and the average user age 41 (64% male, 36% female)
    • The power of recommendations (i.e. your references)

    • Companies use it to post jobs, and candidates use it to search for jobs
    • Recruiters use it to source passive candidates: the traditional “job boards” are too expensive and over-saturated, and companies want people, not resumes
