  • 1. The Battle of Normandy

  • 2. The battle of Normandy is renowned as the beginning of the end for Nazi Germany.
  • 3. Prior to the Battle of Normandy, Germany Controlled Western Europe.
    • Hitler Began expansion on March 12th, 1938 with Austria.
    • 4. On September 1st, 1939, Hitler conquers Poland.
    • 5. From April 9th to June 22nd, 1940, Denmark, Norway, Holland, Belgium, and France are conquered.
  • The Allied Invasion Had 2 Parts, Overlord, and Neptune.
    • Overlord was the plan to establish an allied base in Western Europe.
    • 6. In 1943, The plan to invade the Normandy coast was finalized.
    • 7. Overlord began with air raids from April 1st to June 5th, 1940.
  • Operation Neptune was the name given to the assault on Normandy
    • Operation Neptune began in the early hours of June 6th, 1944.
    • 8. The beaches were attacked at different times due to the tide.
    • 9. German forces were surprised, which led to the liberation of France.
