  5. 5. Practical Session (National Student Registry)Description:The central management of students’ profiles at the ministry of educationis becoming an urgent need in the last years. Many students in Palestinemove from one university to another, and they need to transfer theiracademic records. Also, the ministry of higher education needs to certifythe diplomas and mark-sheets of students. Moreover, there is a need tocentrally manage/monitor students financial aids. Therefore, the ministry ofhigher education has decided to build a national student registry, such that, each semester every university has to send the academic record of everystudent to the ministry of education. The ministry will then update andintegrate the academic records according to the data combined from alluniversities into the national student registry. To build a modern information system for this national student registry andto keep the data consistent and well integrated, a good data model needsto be designed at the conceptual level. Build a conceptual model forthis registry using ORM. PalGov © 2011 5
  6. 6. Practical Session (National Student Registry)• Each two students form a group. Each group must be composed of students from different universities (in their first level degrees).• Start brainstorming on a paper to specify what a student record contains (student, university, faculty, program, course, semester, marks, averages, and the relationships between such concepts as well as the business rules and constraints ).• Students are strongly recommended to use three different mark sheets from different universities, and to ensure that the resultant conceptual model cover the relevant exchanged information needed for this national registry.• After finalizing their conceptual schema, each group will be asked to present their model to all students, so to collect comments and feedback.• Then each group will have some time to correct their mistakes, and submit the final model.• The final delivery should include the conceptual model in PDF format as well as the generated database schema.
