  3. 3. Classical Era <ul><li>The classical era began approximately 1759until1820. </li></ul><ul><li>Mozart was born in 1732. He began composing in 1736 at the age of 4. </li></ul><ul><li>Some of the characteristics of this period can be found on the following link : </li></ul>
  4. 4. Mozart’s birth <ul><li>Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was born January,27,1756 in Salzburg, Austria in to Leopold and Anna-Maria Mozart. </li></ul><ul><li>The Mozart’s lived here from 1747-1773. The rooms once occupied by them serve as a museum. </li></ul>

  6. 6. Family Life <ul><li>Wolfgang’s father was a court composer in Salzburg for the Archbishop of Salzburg. Leopold was Mozart’s first music teacher. </li></ul><ul><li>Mozart’s mother was very close to her children and often accompanied Wolfgang on his tours of Europe. </li></ul><ul><li>Nannerl, Wolfgang’s older sister, was also a very gifted musician. </li></ul>

The Requiem Mass <ul><li>The Requiem Mass was commissioned in the summer of 1791 under mysterious circumstances. </li></ul><ul><li>Mozart, his health deteriorating, believed he was composing his own death Mass. </li></ul><ul><li>Mozart died on December 5 th , 1791 before it’s completion. </li></ul><ul><li>For more information on the Requiem, click here </li></ul>This is a portrait of Mozart and his wife Constanze depicting his last days while writing the Requiem.

Mozart’s Death <ul><li>There is still much speculation on what caused Mozart’s death. </li></ul><ul><li>What is known is that his health slowly began to deteriorate over the course of many years. </li></ul><ul><li>At the end of his career he was working constantly and this is said to have contributed to his illness. </li></ul><ul><li>He died on December 5 th , 1791 bankrupt. Wofgang Amadeus Mozart was buried in a mass grave in Vienna, Austria. </li></ul>
