Should we be afraid of snakes? Few snakes are poisonous. Snakes in North Carolina: Garden snakes, Grass snakes, Corn snakes Copperhead snakes, Mountain rattlesnakes, Water snakes

Eyes- See well at night
Tongue- Primary sensory organ, sense of smell
Scales (Determine patterning)
Skin, snakes “molt” (Naomi will explain)
Do snakes have bones?

How can you tell if a snake is a boy or girl?
It is very difficult to tell a girl from a boy snake
Patterning and color do not determine if a snake is a boy or girl.
You need a special scientist- a herpetologist
Corn snakes lay eggs (some snakes have live babies)
Baby corn snakes hatch in 70 days and get out of the egg using their egg tooth (Naomi will explain)
